First date ideas

I have been talking to a girl I recently met. Long story short, I decided I want to take her out and get to know her better, she was very receptive to the idea. Thing is for at least right now our schedules are pretty busy and her's especially with getting ready to move as well. But we do both have this evening available. Now I was never a fan of a movie for a "first date" because you really cannot talk (or at least that is frowned upon) and dinner is a little typical. Of course I realize it's a weeknight so it does put some limits on ideas, however I'm looking for suggestions of legit fun yet casual first date ideas? Serious ideas only :roflmao: Thanks in advance.

No movie. You're right, you need to talk to get to know someone.

Be typical, dinner is fine. She has to eat sometime. :)

How old are you?

I'm 31, she's 29. I would suggest just a casual walk around a lake or something like that however there is a good chance for rain and some storms around here tonight.

I never listened to people who said movies were bad first dates. I think they're perfect. They give you time to "ease" into each other, and then give you something to talk about and relate to AFTER the move. I've always been a big fan of MOVIE -- COFFEE SHOP (or diner, cafe, whaever).

As fer helping things to go smoothly, I know that times have changed greatly - last time I dated people didn't even have cellpphones :), but this is something that worked great for me.

I wrote out a list of ridiculous questions, ie: What is the saddest experience you've ever had? What is the greatest vacation you've ever taken? or whatever ridiculousness I could come up with. I folded up my questions and put them in my back pocket. As soon as there was the first awkward silence, I'd go, "Ah hem.... excuse me for a second...." I'd take out the paper, look at her, and ask the first question. And I'd let her know I came prepared in case there was silence.

It used to work excellently for me, but it might take a "special" kind of person to pull it off. And I'm not necessarily complimenting myself there :).

I miss dating sometimes, but I love my wife dearly and don't think I could handle dating in 2018. I'd have to have a no cellphones rule if I did, and that would probably knock out 98% of any potential dates.

That's all I got.

MONSTER TRUCK RALLY! Erm, maybe not. I have been married too long. As I recall, the first date with my now wife was just a walk. Neither of us had much time, and that's what we did. The second date was me cooking for her in the rat-hole apartment I lived in at the time. With hindsight, I'm amazed that actually happened.

I'm struggling to remember what first dates I ever had to think about much. There were some that worked out, at least for a while, some that never led to a second date. The ones that didn't work were more memorable than the ones that did. If you asked me to tell you about my first date with any girlfriend who lasted more than a week, I can't do it. It must have been seamless.

Don't overthink it. Just pick someplace comfortable and not too busy that's convenient for both of you. Not too expensive but not too cheap. Don't try to impress her. Just be yourself.
