If Peavey stuff is affordable for you there, the 8ohm 1505DT black widow is another good one that will "almost" drop into the cb158 design. May want to lower the port tuning a bit as it will tend to "hump up" in the midbass a bit more than the Legend.

First DIY Bass Cabinet Attempt

A friend built a 606 and used a Carvin 15" (think it was well under $100). VERY nice, sweet mellow tone. I liked that cab a lot.
Mine too, I hoarde them.
I know nothing of what things costs in Greece, but perhaps something like Faital, Celestion, or other european maker might be more affordable to this guy?
I haven't seen much from Celestion that perks me up for bass, but they do make a good 10", and Duke says they use a pretty conservative yardstick for measuring xmax, so maybe add a bit to their numbers, and/or subtract a bit from Faitals to get even comparisons.
By the way, you can get the fEARful drivers from Thomann or Banzai music for about 200-250€. Though you also have to factor in the price of the mid driver.

And the 3015LF goes up to 1.5/2 khz; I've played several hours into a cab that barely reached 1.5khz and it was very usable, at least in rehearsal (never took it out to a show so that might be the issue). Also note he wants a fat, warm tone - meaning not many highs.Or does the xover cut it off earlier?

Yep. Around 800hz or so if I remember.
Still, if you use a different crossover or no xover at all, AFAIK it should work. All of this of course with the prospect of shelling out the rest of the cash later to put a mid driver in there.
ie. the right box volume/port tuning is still the same for the driver, regardless of which freqs are passing through. And, besides, you can change the port tuning fairly easily if need be.
How much volume do you really need, and how high up the frequency range? What's up with super loud 3 way cab, so far out of your budget?

The Simplexx plans contain the range of usable speaker specs, so you can use any speaker that meets those specs. He only lists Eminence choices because theyre the most widely available, and it would take two pages of listings to show every alternative.
Up again - I will probably go for a single 15'' cab, the so far driver choices be:
- Eminence Kappalite 3015
- EVM-15B ProLine
- Faital Pro 15PR400
- Fane Sovereign Pro 15-500
- Peavey 1505-8 KA DT Black Widow

- EVM-15B ProLine - This is a great driver if you can find one. Very heavy though, and brighter than you may expect.
- Faital Pro 15PR400 - This is one of the best full range bass 15" speakers in production.
- Fane Sovereign Pro 15-600LF (?) No experience with this driver, xMax is good, but sensitivity is a little low. Not sure about the mid/high response.
- Peavey 1505-8 KA DT Black Widow - This is one of the best ceramic speakers in production.

The EVMb Proline is a great driver as well, tougher to find than the Peavey, and a wash on performance really. The 3015LF is not a stand alone driver, but the 3015 (not on your list) is. It is a great speaker as well, a little more aggressive in the upper mids than the 15PR400. Depends on what you want to hear.
The EVM 15L may be considered a guitar speaker, but my Mesa Boogie Road Ready Diesel version of the TL606 came with (to my surprise) an L, rather than a B. It works fine for bass.
Since you live in Greece you may also want to consider "Oberton", IMO/IME the price/performace ratio of their products is just excellent. I don't know where you can buy them in Greece but here is the adress of the salesmanager in Greece [email protected]

You're right - Eminence Kappalite 3015 then, I didn't know that the LFs are not stand-alone. I updated the list, changing the Eminence and the Fane.
This looks like a great driver to work with! Has not been on my radar as I am not sure about their availability stateside.
Have you worked with this driver @Arjank ? does it need help in the upper mids/highs at all?
Or, if you want to build a smallish 12" cabinet without tweeter you could try this one:
