First Five String Bass

After 45years playing 4 learned 5 this year

No its not an easy learn just from good technique {least my age group) and took months of playing to get comfortable and not get string lost

Was very tempted to just bag it except I challenged myself to learn on an expensive bass and too cheap to give up

Acid test was to only bring 5 to 5 hour high profile Casino gig... Sink or swim. I swam and haven't looked back

OP suggest play out, you'll rise to the occasion, otherwise it's for some of us challenging road

This ought to be the easiest thing you've ever done, took me about five minutes with my first five. Learning to use it in a musically effective and appropriate manner - i.e. building a vocabulary - takes longer.

I'm looking for a good 34" fretless one, taking my time.

And just hang out on the B string all day? Pretty inefficient if you ask me - and would eventually take its toll on my fingers and cause them fatigue. B strings are pretty big.

Learn to groove using just the 5-string's B & E strings only. Think a bit bluesier. Think Geezer Butler on the first Sabbath album. Getting a groove going in "E" on the "B" goes along way towards comfort.

I have many 4, 5, and 6 strong basses. Very easy to male the jump between them. Have fun with it. I hate open notes so that Low B works nice. Also, I am up and down all 24 frets on all 5 strings depending on how the mood strikes me. I love high E at the 17th fret on the String. Killer heavy overtones
