So last night I played my first gig with a backlined amp and cab. I've played a lot of bar/amvets type gigs using either an Acoustic B200 1x15 combo, or a small Peavey 2x8 combo. Playing through the 410 blew those away (obviously). So now I've gotta have a 410.
Not far from me a guy on Craigslist is selling a Yorkville 410, 500w @ 8Ω. He's listing it for $75 cash. Is that enough of a deal that I should go snag it immediately? I don't have a head yet (I'm leaning towards probably picking up one of those TC Electronic heads), so I don't even really have a way to test it (unless the guy has an amp he's willing to demo it with).
I was also looking around on Guitar Center, where it looks like I can get all manner of different used 410 cabs for $150-250 or so, delivered to my local. Notably saw a Bassman 410h for $170 or a Rumble 410 for $229, as well as various other stuff for cheap, GK, Hartke, etc. There's not a lot of availability on the ground near me for used kit. And I really don't know much about cabs.
I play G&L Tribute basses, a Fallout and an L2500, and I like a mid-punch sound (I like me some Joe Dart). I play in some classic rock cover bands (small bars mostly) and am in an originals band that plays alternative-style stuff, where the bass is pretty forward. Ideas?
