First Impression: Bergantino NXT

would love to try the NXT. However, I think saying the tweeter is “better” is a subjective issue. I had two different HG cabs with that tweeter and I did not like it as much as the tweeter on the HDN series. Too warm/not cutting enough in a band mix with both upright and electric bass.

I absolutely love my HDN210’s. that being said, would love to try the new NXT210 and compare... The videos I heard, they each have a slightly different flavor... Which one will never know until they try it themselves.

The NXT tweeter is better. Empirically.

JK. You're right of course - all of this is subjective. But the NXT tweeter cuts better in a pleasing way without being harsh. It's brilliant. Of course, it can always be tamed as desired.

I posted this to the "show your Berg" thread too, but here's a quick comparison. Same settings in all videos.

I'm surprised by how similar they sound. I hear the obvious differences in the horn, but the overall character of the midrange and bottom seems almost identical. More similarities than differences for sure. Listened a few times with high quality IEMs. I'm sure it's a different experience in person. This might have cured (temporarily at least) my GAS for upgrading my pair of HDN 322's.

For me, the difference was the "heft" of the lower notes that made me compare and do the switch. It's not just the horns. I'd say it's not unlike the difference in low end you feel when you compare a CA-9 to a GK800RB. Both awesome but one punches you deeper in the gut.

Aye, I reckon the NXT is a really nice evolution. Not a completely new thing.

What's an HDN 322?

Apologies for being slightly off topic here, but,...since several here seem to already own the HDN series, I'm struggling with a decision. It's new cab time,....and my two choices are,.... an HDN212, new, that I've found for a good price,....or a Barefaced BBII I've found locally for an even better price. THE BBII I can try out, and will in the next day or two,...the Berg, I've never even laid eyes on, let alone got a chance to play through. I realize I may get a slightly biased POV here in a Berg thread, but hoping for some advice from the Berg camp. Thanks in advance for any and all input.

Edit, my amp is a GK MBF800, basses range from Lakland DJ5 to Lull fretless to Benavente active 4 and 5. Gigs are mostly casinos, but I do get the occasional loud gig where some big oopmph is required.

They are both excellent. I’ve owned both, and I still own the Berg. The BBII is more of a flat response PA style speaker, with little personality of its own, so all that has to come from amp or Bass. The bergs are full range, but they also have a nice “bass speaker” feel. I like that.

Had two gigs now on the NXT series 212. Had all the earlier Neo iterations. Thats a hot smooth tweeter! Prefer this newer B&C high freq driver compared to the HDN tweet. Sounds more smooth to my ear. Seems to be smoother in the upper mids compared to the HDN. I can see how a rocker might prefer the HDN. And 100 watts more power handling. Nice. This one stays!

New cab for my rig and loving it!

So what are the Bugera heads like?
Incredibly well featured for the money and delivers all the power you will likely ever need: 800W RMS into 4ohm would be my best estimate - it's comparably loud to my DG AO900. Warmer, but still punchy, tone than my DG amp where the clean is very clean. Both of them would be trumped by my Mesa M6, but that's a different kettle of fish as an amp!

By reading between the lines of this thread (and many others) it seems to be the view of some owners that the Reference series was the high point sonically of Bergantino cabinets. My experience of owning both ceramic HT112ER and neo AE112 at the same time was that the HT had a much firmer (heftier, if that's a word?) low end. I also own a couple of HD210 and would love to find cabs that sound at least as good but lighter weight if they exist? NXT210 is 19lbs lighter. I've never focussed much on the high frequency elements so the comparisons of the different tweeters is less important (I often dial them out completely).
Whenever I play through my neo cabs I'm perfectly happy with the tone until I switch to ceramics and experience the extra (firm not boomy or flabby) low end heft.
Are there any reasons why heavyweight cabs could possibly translate to heavyweight tone?

So, has anyone been able to directly compare the ref 112 to the nxt ? I've never had the chance to play the ref for any extent of time but it's brought up as the standard of excellence for 112s so I'd be interested to see how the nxt stacks up :)
