My first bass was a Pearl P-bass copy. I think it was terrible but who knows, I might like it now! 
My first great bass was an Alembic Spoiler that had been snapped in two in a car accident, which I bought in pieces and had repaired for a total cost of just under $500. What a great instrument, but it was stolen in the early 80's.
My current versatile-go-to is my Carvin SB5000, amazing instrument.

My first bass was a new Fender Mustang circa "69. Cool at first but never sounded like a real bass to me.
First bass I really connected with was a used Gibson EB2-D. Some crackling in the finish but other than that no problems. As far as sound it was everything I wanted and more. It is still with me today, crackles and all. Every so often it insists on playing those muddy lines from back then.
