First job

My little brother got his first job last year at 11. He gets paid almost as much as me, $10.80 an hour.

I didn't really get my first job till I was about 16. Before that I just worked for my parents, who were self employed, thought I did probably 8-10 hours a week on average since about 13.

Try "impossible for a 13 year old to get a job these days, unless you live in the south, midwest, or central north." here on the east coast? forget it. it's illegal to work until you're sixteen.

Completely disagree. Many of my friends back east (Delaware / NJ / Penn) have kids that are 13-15 and many of them created a way to earn money whether it's landscaping (raking leaves, cutting grass, etc.), lifeguarding, app building, home computer repair/custom building...you just have to be creative. It's not "illegal" as a blanket statement but some corporate locations (fast food / retailers) have minimum age requirements.

Driven/creative teenagers find a way. My nephew is 20 and back east. He's found a way since he was 14 to make his own money, pay for his cell phone, buy his car, and saved up 30K for college.
