Glad to see my band aren't the only young dudes covering the Meters! 
Your playing was great, man. You were really feeling it. Your drummer really knew what he was doing, too. The guitarist...eh. Liked his tone, his solo didn't really fit with the song, IMO, but it wasn't bad.

Thanks Super! On the subject of the guitarist- he is a Jazz trained guitard, so he is still getting into the funk vibe. He usually nails it, but that day his amp was acting up. He stressed about it all day, it kept cutting out.

I know all about the whole cutting out thing. Had it happen to me at a big jazz festival when we were playing the song that I soloed on. Cord kept cutting out as we were performing. Lotsa fun.
He has a Peavey Tube Combo, not sure exactly of what it is, but it was dying. Made it through the show with no hitches, but we were all nervous.
You guys sound great! As far as solos, it sounds like you guys are trying to think outside of the box and play something interesting (instead of just scales).
My only recommendation is to step up the confidence a bit. No reason to be shy...you sound good!
In my experience, I have found that audiences react the way you tell them to react. Everyone wants to have a good time so, if you look like your having a good time, others will join in. It's all about connecting with people. It took me a long time to realize that.

Funny you say that. My parents, and all my friends at the show, make fun of me for my "bass head". If you watch, my head bobs back and forth, and my legs bend together. I just get into it, I cant help myself!
You guys sound good. I too am in a teenage band, were called Armed With Elephants. We play professionaly around the minneapolis area, places like the Varsity, the Dinkytowner, Trocaderos, etc... You should check us out here; Link Removed

When you say professional, what do you mean exactly?
We have steady paying gigs that allow us to not have to get "real" jobs, but mostly pay for recording studio time. That stuff is expensive.
Jordan, nice job! I am impressed that you sound so good at an early age! I wish I sounded that good when I was in my teens! I got the feeling you played that effortlessly.....
Some jerk on youtube had said you guys did not have stage presence and what not. It comes in time and the guy was way too harsh. Don't listen to that crap.

Guys, I just wanted to thank you all personally for the comments on my solo. It means a lot, and it feels great. Honestly!

good stuff. I'm not going to critique it too hard because you're just in high school and I don't want it to sound like I'm ripping it apart because it was really good. Yes, you could use more stage presence, BUT you're young, and that will come as you gain more experience on stage. Really, all the flaws I would chalk up to nerves and inexperience. Slow it down a shade and it will groove harder. Guitar solo didn't really fit the song - but it was a good solo. Get out from behind the amps... little stuff. Glad to see young guys digging into the meters. So you guys didn't win???? Who did? That would beat 99% of the high school talent show performances I've seen.
I wont lie, the girl who won was actually very good.. but we got 9th out of 12 acts! Come on.. I dont want to sound over confident, or cocky, but we played very well for our first stage, definitely more deserving than 9th.
She played piano, and sang very well. I give her props.

tell your band I think ya did a great job. Especially your drummer. I find that at our age group, the drummer is usually the weak link. Yours kept a nice tight groove though.
