First post. Is this a good bass or should I keep looking?

Schecter man. Schecter. I got my used Stargazer 5 for 320$ and the thing is near PERFECT. Check out basically anything Schecter and it won't be too bad.
I'll second the Schecter if you can't find anything in the classifieds. I owned one of these for a few years (although it was a walnut satin finish):

Great playing bass with really good sound. They were $100 more a few years ago when I bought mine, so imo this thing is a great deal.

One thing I should add if you do go the route of the Brice. One con I have heard is that the frets are fairly soft and need constant care and eventually, replacement.
I have had 6 Rogue basses from MF, 3 VB100 violin basses, an LX205B, and 2 LX405Pro's. I still have 2 violins, and a LX405B. The 405 plays great, is active, with a 'musicman' style humbucker and a single coil. Quilted maple top and maple neck. At a little over $200, they are a great bass. Worth a look!

I've played the guitars and it was not fun. I can only assume that the bass is similar, if not the same, as most guitar/bass transitions are.

You possibly assume wrong! Not that I have any experience of the Omen in guitar or bass format but bass-guitar transitions do not lead to similar instruments, except in looks.
I've played a Gibson Explorer bass, felt like a Gibson Explorer, except bigger and bass (duh? XD)
Hey, I might be wrong about the Schecter, though.
I guess the bodies may feel similar as well. And I guess if you don't like the look of the guitar version, you probably wouldn't like the look of the bass version.
Thinking about it, I've not played the equivalent guitar and bass versions of the same model but they're usually very different beasts purely down to the differences between a 24"'25"-scale guitar and a 34"ish bass.
