First rebuild - shoreline gold

Sweet axe man. For the diyers out there, many auto paint supply stores can put whatever auto colour you want in a spray can for around $20. You just have to have the right paint code number.
Thank you sir, and great advice on finding correct paint colors, that’s exactly what I did, except I also had them finish it for me. First, they have great equipment, secondly, theY had a great controlled environment for the work, and third, they are professionals and I am not

I’m definitely writing down those codes in post #15 because those particular paints from the 50’s are probably unknown to most paint employees under the age of 50 or 60.

This is what the auto body guy told me...
“Shoreline gold, also called pearl fawn, Shows on DuPont chart and also as Fender guitar usage. All same dupont #2935”, I do believe he contacted DuPont or their distributor. That chart is definitely worth hanging on to.

Oh my gosh. This is absolutely beautiful! Something I've been dreaming about putting together for some time now, too. Er...maybe you can tell from my forum name. ;) I once had a Shoreline Gold Strat that I so regret getting rid of. I'm absolutely useless when trying to do this sort of stuff--my skills extend no farther than doing a decent set up on an instrument. Does anyone have any recommendations for a business that could handle either a nitro finish of an unfinished body or a nitro refinish of any existing one to get that Shoreline Gold goodness?

Thank you for the comments, and yes, based on your name I can see why you like it
As for finding someone to help build one, I’d say talk to several auto body shops about painting options and costs, definitely shop around. As for the electronics, if your not comfortable with that search for a good luthier, I’m sure they could assist as well.
Good luck and I hope you get a nice shoreline gold instrument soon, be sure to share photos if you do.

Thanks, and yes, I find it to be a gorgeous color, and you are right, you really don’t see it often, and that really made me want it even more.
And since you did your J in this color....My inner "gas" got the best of me:smug:. I'm currently in process of stripping down a squire PJ to be painted the same color......Prep and sanding seem to be most of the work so far

If you’re dead set on nitro, and I cannot blame you, you might have trouble finding someone. The Guitar Reranch cans would be a good way to go. If you cannot paint at home you could supply a couple of cans to an auto body place. I have in the past decanted paint from cans and sprayed it through my own rig.

Good luck with your project, I’m sure it’ll look great. Yes, the sanding and prep is a big chunk, remember, the better you prep, the better the final product.
Please keep posting updates, what products you use, and of course the end results

Prep and sanding are the most important steps
