First rebuild - shoreline gold

So I bought Geddy Lee’s “big beautiful book of basses” and fell in love with his 1963 shoreline gold jazz Bass. Only one thing to do, refinish one to catch that vibe, so my 70’s Squier VM jazz would have to become my victim.

So what is left of the original bass....?
the body, the bridge, the chrome plate for the pots, and for now, the pickups.

The rest is all new, but necessary for the required look i was going for. Not going to lie, I had some big help with painting, some rewiring, and cleanup of the new Fender neck. I know my limitations, but I’m good with that and in the end, I’m jazzed about the jazz.

Who did you purchase the paint from? Thanks!
I did a lot of searching and emailing “guitar reranch”, very helpful and from reviews, great products. In the end, I had the final finishing done with the help of an auto body repair shop, and honestly, I don’t know who their supplier is. They took great interest in helping and researching the original Fender color, I think they had fun too.

Beautiful job!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

hi Shooz :)

I had some big help with painting

You whant a good paint job? Let a painter do the job! :D

Awesome colour! :drool: (you upgraded from an Indonesian scooter to a Pontiac :D)

I love all the custom car colours on Fenders (they represent what was hip when the basses or guitars came out)

Fender used DuPont colours (or maybe I should write colors :D) see above.

DuPont still makes them, but you won't get all of them in rattle cans.

auto body repair shop

They are produced for pros who need these color's for vintage cars.

You need the right equipment to spray them.

You are 100% correct, I let professionals do it right. Yes, in all my research it was often discussed how Fender colors were based on automotive colors, specifically DuPont. Hilarious on the “scooter to Pontiac”, yes, I feel it was a great upgrade. I considered Sea Foam as well but dang that gold got me every time.

thanks for all the info and positive feedback!
