First time in studio!

Hey,

Next weekend ill be heading into the studio for the
first time!

Ive only been playing bass for 8 months and this sunday
ill be heading into the studio with my band (Curse
Of A Thousand).
I have no idea what to expect but i want to make sure
my bass is heard in the mix!
And considering we play metal this is no easy task.

Any advice to offer a young bass player?

By the way I love your work on The Slip! (Echoplex perticularly!)

My advice: don't worry too much about your bass being heard in the mix. Worry more about your contribution to the song, and enjoying yourself. Don't get too focused on the details, keep your eye on the big picture! It's gonna be great.

If they want you to go direct into the board, have a Line 6 or Zoom B2 or something. You will at least have more control over your sound.

What makes your bass come out of the mix is typically more mid and treble.

Make sure you're familiar with all your effects before you go in the door. I went in one time and it was kind of dark in there and I assumed my delay pedal was broken and abandoned it. Plugged it in in the light a day later and was pissed to discover that it worked fine.

If you have all of those considerations out of the way, you can then focus on giving a good performance and know that it will actually mean something when the recording is finally mastered.
