First time with a Trace Elloit

I recently purchased a Trace Bass amp. Always wanted one. Well I played around with it for a week and really could not get it to sound like anything. It real midrange almost a harsh sound way more top end than I'm use to. Always been about that 60's sound.
I really was disappointed with it. Well the band came over after practice and said it was the best sound i ever had! ***! What the heck I have I been listening to. Someone help me I think I'm losing my mind.

Sort of Punk covers Sort of. I really like what HIM did with Wicked Game but I don't know what to call it. I understand solo sound and band sound. I have been playing bass for a long time ( i should be way better). I guess what I'm saying is, Its tone I never liked but it appears I might be wrong. Could be old dog new trick time?

I have a Trace elliot 2x10 combo and I tried different strings on my bass to change my sound. I found the Trace a little bright, so tried Flat wounds and Nylon tape wounds to soften the tone. The cost of a few sets of stings is far less than a new rig

I came to Trace Elliot from being used to an Ampeg, and it was quite a shock as well. The massive low-mid bump and insane snap at the high end really surprised me and made me rethink how I played bass. At first I wondered if I could "tame" the amp, as in find a usable tone to something that seemed so crazy. I played the Trace Elliot exclusively for a month before going back to the Ampeg, and found that my idea of bass sound changed so much that I would never go back. I ended up buying a more powerful Trace, and it was even more clean. Again it took a while to "tame" . They cut through so nicely, it worth getting to know the amp and how to control it.

I say give it more of a chance, and be more open to change. Now I exclusively play mid-heavy, punchy as all hell amps and I wouldn't have it any other way. There is a whole new world in that area of the market with tons of options.

I love my AH350SM.It is the cleanest sounding amp I have played.I run it flat and if I need more rounder sound I play towards the neck and if I need more bite I play closer to the bridge.Here is a pic. Link Removed

There was a hybrid V-Type head on aussie ebay awhile ago, only when for $600 something IRC, but there is no way I'm letting these cabs go :P i got them both for the price of a Behringer 410 :hyper:

But I still have some cabinet GAS, Hartke XL 215 and XL2.5, a good 410 and if my dreams come true, a Kelly Lee trace rig, 1524 and bright box :D

Trace elliot takes a little getting used too but fear not ! - i now know a man who is in the know.

He used to be an engineer for trace elliot and i discovered today that he even possibly made and built my GP11 MK 5 in 1989!, and he has great advice and can get hold of some quality Trace elliot gear/accesories

I really cant say how good Trace Elliot are.

You have to give it time trust me

I went from The hard sounds of Hartke to the mid rangy Trace Elliot and you have to give it time - PA guys love them too!

The GP11 MK 5 may be from 1989 but its the backbone in our band - its a solid sound, it stands out clearly in the mix, records beautifuly, looks so good, robust, they are the dogs pyjamas!!!!!!!!!!!

If you need some advice on geeting used to it just let me know and like i said this Guy i know has some great knowledge you can extract from!
