First try out for a band! And BOMBED ;)

Fuzzy, first of all bro, I really don't see the "fail" here. You auditioned, liked the people, music is "so-so", big deal! Go for it. Like others have said, take it as practice. You can only benefit from
it. The smoking is the only deal breaker, IMHO. Negotiate that, and you're good.

FenderBassist I have no want to quit playing! Just sharing a failure and looking for advice.

Havent made any decisions yet. We will see what they say wensday about the other players who tried out after me.

Oh and on another note i got a Email from a Ukulele group!:)

Glad to hear you're still on fire to play.

Keep us posted on how things turn out :)

Hope even just one of the links was entertaining lol!

P.S. I never consider a genuine effort a failure, even if things didn't work out you were getting one step closer to the next thing.

My dream set up would to be to latch onto a singer songwriter alla Guy clark, townes van Zant, Ray Wylie Hubbard , Todd Snider, Justin Townes Earle type player. Back them with bass lines and enjoy the show!!LOL

First band = dream band rarely happens. You could gain some valuable experience from this.

And the Adele song is popular and fairly easy to learn. Again, it goes towards gaining experience.

+1

I've played in bands with different styles. If it sounded good, made money and the people were okay, I'd consider joining. Holding out for playing a specific type of music wasn't a concern of mine.

I played a whole lot of gigs, met lots of great people including many of the female persuasion :) and got lots of experience and a ton of irreplaceable memories.

Even with my current semi-irregular jam band that rents a studio every couple of months, I play whatever the BL wants and we all have a great time. Sometimes we jam on stuff I come up with..the point is I'm still playing out occasionally rather than sitting at home practicing all the time.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

I haven't read this entire thread, but Brad and I are on the same page. This may not be the dream gig, but it should make you a better player that could land you your dream gig if it appears.

Playing with better musicians has never hurt anyone...although, the 2nd hand smoke could. :D

I stopped here when I found this post. I'm like you and a big fan of some of the artist you listed. I am lucky enough to play with a singer/songwiter and a good one although we are a band (by his choice)
Try hanging with this group to gain experience and keep looking for the singer/songwriter as you do.
I will warn you thou most singer/songwriters want basslines played their way to their songs or will have input on what you play. Playing covers you just serve the song.
I was lucky that my bandmates who write like my style and we rarely clash on what I write for his songs. Good luck and hang in there.
