I got back into fishing when we moved to a house near a river. There was a Superfund site upstream so strictly catch and release. I've caught bass and one pickerel on plastic worms, spinners, worms, or small crank lures from my kayak.

Hey folks. My plan this year was to hit some outdoor craft shows with some of my sisters pour paintings and my other sisters photographs, but we all know what happened there. I’m currently living 200 miles from my shop with only some of my bass junk i brought when i first came down, but now i’m going bonkers so a few weeks ago i had to run a friend up north to see his mom who was in a bad way. He was going to go either way so i offered to take him. I dropped him at his sisters house then went on to my place and loaded up some of my rod making junk. All my equipment is geared to production and too bulky and not really necessary if i just want to have a little something to do along when things get dull. I’ve got a hand wrapper coming and will build a finishing station a grip lathe and a drying rack out of parts i took off my production equipment. I couldn’t find my box of tip tops so i’ve got to stock up on those and some fresh glues and finishes and it’ll be on.

I love Fishing. I actually think I love Fishing more than Bass Guitar....lol....but seriously, the two passions balance each other out perfectly in my life (except they are both insanely expensive when you start getting serious about gear).

I legitimately have just as much fun catching Small Fish as I do Big Fish. To me, just being out on the water is enough to keep me happy!
Panfish are aggressive fighters... super-fun to catch on light gear. I love to catch anything on the fly... feels so fantastic.

Im scared to get into Fly Fishing!!!!!! I have buddies that fly fish up in the Sierras. Im afraid cuz i know how i get. Ill get obsessed....i already have time consuming expensive habits as it is! Lol Its the same reason I dont get into Bow Hunting either (ironic cuz im Native), i have so much invested in Rifle hunting....
Do it, man! Seriously, once you catch a fish on the fly, you'll want to catch ALL fish on the fly. It's like flying a kite with a brain of its own underwater.

The one in my pic i will never sell and i promised Carl that when i die, it will be cremated with me because thats the very FIRST one he ever made for me. I have bought and sold many CTs before and i currently have 2 more on order with him due to be completed one of these days....lol....I just can't sell em for Fishing Gear, that would create a new paradox in my life that I am not prepared to handle.....hahha
What's Carl's turnaround time for a build these days? I hear it's a multi-year wait... true?

Honestly, it all depends....they could churn out basses pretty fast if they want to...but he makes people wait. Ive seen em on average take 3 years, but ive seen him knock em out in 6 months....it just all depends....my first 1 was 3 years but he asked me if i wouldnt mind waiting extra longer so i he can work on a Make a Wish Bass. Of course i didnt mind waiting.
Im not sure how some of you Non-American fishing bass bros feel about CARP fishing, but in America, its mostly looked down upon and not very popular. However, the rest of the world is into it big time. Personally, i think its a lot of fun, very easy to get into and they can get pretty big! When i dont feel like taking the bass boat out, i have no problem plopping down for some Carp fishing.
Met a guy via a fly fishing club, who gave up trout fishing for carp... HUGE FISH on a fly rod.
I always practice catch and release so I'm only interested in the sport involved. While I don't ever really target carp, I sometimes catch them, and to me it's kind of fun when I expect a bass and find a big fat carp on my hook.
Most fishermen I know who want to eat their catch will target panfish species like bluegill, crappie, and perch. In the region where I live, a lot of lakes have muck or clay bottoms and it makes carp taste terrible unless it's smoked or heavily processed.

On the fly, they're a tougher fish to hook than a trout = carp are a veeeeerrrrrry spooky fish. They scare so easy so you have to a) ninja up on them and then b) be able to put that fly into a shot glass.

My preferred species to chase is Walleye, which we here in Ontario call Pickeral. Before the onset of Zebra mussels, the fall run of Walleye into The Bay of Quinte made it one of the premier Walleye fisheries in the world.
We had 35 fish days, with most fish in the 11 to 13 lb range. My biggest tipped the scales at 14.75 lbs. It was 35 inches long.
The fishery has taken a huge step back in recent years....
