Double Bass Fishman Full Circle Upright Bass Pickup UNC 1/4-20

Hey,

I can buy an Fishman Full Circle Upright Bass Pickup UNC 1/4-20. Who has expierences with this pickup? Do i need an pre-amp? Is it possible to instalate the pickup by myself? Other tips?

Pre-amp: Yes, unless your amp is designed for the high impedance of a piezo pickup.

You can install yourself if you already have a bridge with the same size adjusters on it and you are comfortable with setting the position of your bridge (and praying the soundpost doesn't fall)

I installed my easily enough. Before removing the bridge, lay your bass on its back and place something heavy but soft (I used a sack of flour) on the belly to prevent the soundpost from falling.

Also, I find it helpful to mark the bridge to tell you which side faces which way, which feet go on which side and in which direction. To an untrained eye (like mine), not always so easy to determine.

Make sure the adjuster screws on the FC are the same size as your current ones, if they are smaller, you won't get enough pressure to make a good sound and they'll buzz, if too large you'll need to have the holes bored out and that's a pretty high level skill set.

Oh, and make sure fishman sends you a pickup and adjuster that have the same f***ing sized threads. I must have been sent the spare bin leftovers.
