Double Bass Fishman Platinum Stage EQ Battery Power Management

Recently bought a new Fishman Platinum Stage EQ for use with my Ergo 4-string EUB. It seems that the only way to stop the 9v battery from constantly draining is to remove it from its compartment when not using the Fishman. Is that correct??? I searched high and low in the user's manual but was unable to find any reference to battery power management. What techniques have you come up with for battery management, and do you carry a spare flashlight for when you pop open the battery compartment and the battery falls down onto the dark, dirty stage floor?

I don't see any mention of it in the manual, but generally this type of device turns on when you plug an instrument in, and turns off when you unplug.

Yep, unplug your instrument from the input jack or having an AC adapter plugged in will also disengage the battery.

Thanks! That's what I was hoping to hear. I don't understand why they wouldn't mention that in their user's manual.

Yay! Just like my Tech 21 VT Bass pedal. I was expecting that, or an explicit 'off' switch of some sort. Don't know why they didn't mention it in their documentation.

Is the Fishman power supply used by the Platinum Stage preamp interchangeable with the 9v power supplies used by many pedals, etc.? The Fishman WWW page hints at this but doesn't say it outright. I just bought the preamp and wouldn't mind saving the $18 for the supply -- I already have several of the others.

I used a One Spot and whatever Boss power supply works with Boss pedals with no issues.

The Fishman should have the voltage, milliamp draw, and +- barrel position printed on the side and/or listed in the manual.

I've powered my Fishman Platinum Pro DI/pre with 3rd-party power supplies without any issues.

• It doesn't use the battery unless you have it plugged in. I've had both old and new versions and batteries last long. That is my experience with them.

If you're so inclined, there's a little device that I always carry with me called the Batt-o-meter, designed by Keith McMillen. You
can get them for $20.00. All you do is plug it into the jack to check the condition of the battery. It's great if you like not having to
use a wall wart that can ocassionally introduce AC line noise and hum.
