Five string (BEAD) with standard tuned band?

I used to play metal , but now im playing in more pop rock band. All the songs are in standard, however I was wondering if incorporating the low notes of my B string would sound good in that contex. I know it sounds quite silly but since the drummer's weak sounding kick drum does not gives me the "feel", I find myself wanting to stomp some dub lows.
Do you think that might work?

Well depends. I used to be afraid to use the B string for fear that I would be accused of "riding the B" However, I've been told that playing lower in my context grooves a lot better. I'm not saying abuse the B, but use it tastefully. Stick on that E string, that is really where it is at in a pop setting IMHO.

I play a 4 string bass tuned BEAD in my rock band. Our stuff has a pop edge to it at times and for me the B string is a large part of the range I like to include when writing lines. We have two guitarists, one of which plays a half step down and sometimes in drop D and the other plays standard. It's a lot to keep track of but it's really not a big deal. Rock it how you want and make it work for you and the bands sound. :bassist:
