I like my 2014 Fender American Dimension Bass V. They can be found on the used market. Fantastic neck and rich, powerful sound.

I'm quite happy with my 5's but for a current model I'm using a Sire M5 which is VERY versatile. If that's overkill, the M2 is similar but with fewer bells and whistles (still mighty versatile, though). Good hunting!

One thing, I haven't see mentioned is string spacing (apologies if someone did already) for me the biggest adjustment was the string spacing between 4 and 5 string. If you are wanting a smooth transition between the 2 then pick something that has a similar spacing, I made myself adjust between my Warwick streamer 5 string (narrowest spacing) to my Jazz V middle and my PJ with widest, so I didn't follow my on advice. but that's how learn![]()
I would like to get a five for when it's needed.
I've wondered about the string spacing with fives, and what it's like from brand to brand.
I practice all of the cover songs on both my 5 string Jazz and on my PJ so, I can pick up any of them at any time depending on what I feel like.

a way to see if the low B is something one really likes before investing in a 5.
and two Stingrays
I too am a 4 string bass guy. I had a Sterling StinRay5. I sold it because the neck was too fat and the string spacing was huge. I recently bought an Ibanez 405EQM and man! What a difference! It can play active and passive, the tonal range is insane, the neck is a jazz neck, the string spacing is almost the same as a 4 string and it’s lightning fast. Definitely worth checking out!I am looking to purchase my first five string bass. I currently own a four string American Ultra jazz, American Professional II precision, Epiphone Thunderbird, and two Stingrays. I would like to get a five for when it's needed. I am a classic and alternative rock player. Looking for recommendations for a solid five, hopefully around a grand or less. I know that includes many basses, any favorites that come to mind?

75% are drunk by the end of our first set, so it is good to have that freedom![]()
