Fixing an old EB-0. need pickup suggestion.

Yes, the bridge pickup is also a humbucker. I think it's the same size as "mini-humbuckers" on guitars, but with four polepieces. A GFS Minitron (minihumbucker, they cost around 35 bucks) would probably do well. The fact it has six visible polepieces doesn't mean it'll work any worse underneath four strings. TV Jones replacement pickups would work perfect, but the price is as high as that of Darkstars and clones, so sadly they're not an option.

Edit: There have been people with other ideas that supposedly worked well, e.g.:

Obviously not a humbucker in the bridge position, but I've heard it works well. Again, SCPBs can be bought cheap, although Artec and GuitarFetish do not stock them, so I have no idea who else does.

I think I know what I'm going to do.

In retrospect this seems kind of like the obvious best solution?

I'll get two of the Artec EB-3 bridge position humbuckers and mount them side by side at the bridge. That should span the cavity the Model one sits in., fit the string spacing and look very "Gibson-like" all at once.

I can use switches to select either one, since they are very close to the bridge they should fall under some different harmonic nodes, so they ought to sound somewhat different... maybe?


Anyway... I think this is my plan, I'm going to think it over for a few weeks or more before moving on it and listen for some more feedback. Thanks for your help TB.

The only other pickup I can think of is SGD's drop-in replacement mini-humbucker (ND3-MHB) that they wind hotter than the stock one.

The Model One (and it's sister pickup the Will Power) are neck pickups that weren't designed to pick up those highs properly. Add that to trying to compete with the neck pickup and I can see why it sounds weak.

If they modified the bridge pocket, you'd need to make a plate to cover it (if you care about the aesthetics).
