fixing loose strings (changing necks)

hey, i was wondering if it is a good idea to change neck lengths so i can make my short scale a little longer. i have a gretsch electromatic junior and i'm in love with it, but even though it sounds great, i feel like it plays so much slower than other basses because of the loose strings, and im trying to figure out a way to get more tension. anything i can do to fix this besides changing necks and up tuning? thanks. (also if someone can give me some tips for changing a neck that'd be great)

If you change to a longer neck then your intonation is going to be all out of whack. You just need to buy some higher-tension strings. If flatwounds are your thing, then go for some Rotosound flatwounds. Playing those is like trying to bend a lightpost. If roundwounds, just go for any set that's got at least a .105 E-string. Do some research to find out which string brands have more tension.
