Flame Broiled Candy Cola Jazz Bass

Mr. Hartke -
As I said - they don't move me either way, but I don't find them to be art, just as you stated "putting a thin Lizzy sticker on it" wouldn't be art either

here would be my only concern for your own accomplishments. I play bass for a living and I buy gear. From now on when I go into a shop and see the name Hartke on a cab, I'm going to probably remember you as the guy who burns basses. Some people dig that, some don't care, and some, as you have seen, completely despise it. It seems foolish to me for a business owner such as yourself, to split the community you cater to. Will my decision to purchase a product be swayed, I don't know; but I promise you, there are some who it will, even if subconsciously.

Most big product owners on here give advice, details on new products, release dates or problem solving tips. Offending members, no matter how small the offense (and really, this is nothing, but it does get a reaction) seems like a questionable business decision.

But what do I know, I'm just a bass player. Good luck to you, good sir :)

Don't worry Larry, most of us get that looking into a specific "point" to this is stupid. Do you like it? GOOD! That's all that counts. I like it too! That blue P is stunning with some hotness added to it! Art is anything you can create. You're all art!

Don't post reasons, just ignore the haters! :)

PS - PM'ed you regarding a slight issue.

You might sing a different song if you knew how awesome Larry is when it actually comes to his company.

Personally, I'm not "offended" in the least, I was just wondering "why"?

I also wonder what would ensue if someone with a less recognizable name than Larry Hartke had done this and posted this? Think he'd get "flamed" much? :p

I dunno...if someone is prone to take offense to what someone else does with their own equipment, I'm guessing they're the kind of person who spends a significant portion of their day looking for things to be offended over. Call me kooky but what Larry (or anyone for that matter) wants to do to the finish of his basses really has zero bearing on my ability to evaluate Hartke products.....but thats just me.

Guys -
I'm not saying I'm offended by what he did to his gear, or if it would or would not affect my personal decisions, but we all have seen the almost guttural reaction the idea of relic'ing or otherwise purposefully damaging a finish gets on this board. My post is simply based on business. I have no personal issue other than to me, it's not art. But he certainly can do it, just as I can comment on it.

An artist creates because he has to, this seems like you just want to burn a bass to stir the pot. I don't hate the results, I wouldn't own one, but it's not art. It's simply damaging someone else's work for notoriety.

And honestly, with everything else you've accomplished, seems unnecessary.

You're obviously not an artist. Maybe you consider yourself to be, but I don't.

I went to the School Of Visual Arts in NYC. I don't have to create. I WANT to create.

Comparing experimenting on a bass and what he's accomplished is silly and doesn't make sense.

Who are you to say what art "is" and "is not"?

I'm saying this beast is art.

Define: the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.

Means the guy at my local Walmart who spray painted his 80s Ford Escort orange and threw an 01 on the doors, art.

I don't drink boxed wine, have a degree from the community college nor do I like Wilco.
