Flame Broiled Candy Cola Jazz Bass

Interesting, though I think Tony Levin beat you to the idea. :D

I don't see why everyone is freaking out. Plenty of people do that to good guitars but call it relic. To me that's a lot lamer bc you are faking age and authenticity. With this, you know someone just took a torch to it to get a cool look, not try to trick themselves and others into believing they have put their heart in soul into a guitar for decades to get a warn out look to it. On a side note, it's pretty cool that I saw that blue torched bass in sam ash the other day.

By the way Mr. Hartke, I just got a Hydrive 410 and love it. Looking to get a lh1000 and hydrive 115 as soon as I can get the moolah scraped together. Keep making great products and being awesome!

I don't see the big fuss. It's Mr. Harke's bass, he can do what he wants to it. Some people like to put stickers, other people like to relic and, in this case, Mr. Hartke likes to burn it. Honestly, whatever tickles your pickle, no need to get all worked up because he's done something to HIS bass.

It's roasted bodies ;) I haven't seen anyone go pitchforks and torches over roasted necks.

It's a couple pieces of wood and a bit of metal and electronics... not sure why people get all offended. It's not like it is some rare piece of unobtanium.

Your bass = do what makes you happy.

+1. It ain't really my thing, but as with relics, it's really just a finish option. Nothing to get up in arms about.

I gotta say, though, the Candy Cola one looks to me like someone attempted a gold leaf job on it and it all went horribly wrong, but maybe I just need to see it in person. I invite you to send it to me for a full inspection.

Just because it's art doesn't mean it's beautiful.

To me, this is like a motorcycle. A motorcycle with tires scrubbed all the way to the edges and the tips of the footpegs ground down = beauty. A motorcycle laid on its side and dragged down the road = waste. A bass that is worn through the paint from a thousand hours of the players forearm rubbing against the front and stomach rubbing against the back while playing is like the former...

Gang ,
I didn't destroy these basses, I just refinished them to my liking! They both play great, I love them.

Now if I put a Thin Lizzy sticker on my bass do I then have to give it away to someone? I'm I destroying someone’s work along with my own accomplishments with that sticker. Sounds a little ridiculous right?

Now if I wanted to stir the pot I’d say something like “they actually sound better this way” but I didn’t say that...yet!

You go, Larry.

Folks, these are Larry's basses. All that matters is whether or not HE likes the finishes. It's pretty safe to say he's not concerned about resale value. ;)
