Flange and Delay

I've done searches on the subject, but I'm not quite getting the info I want. Plus bouncing around searches kinda sucks.

I'm looking for a flanger and a delay and would like to know what the opinions are out there regarding brands. I'm not an audiophile but I like my tone to be solid. I gig in my local area 2 - 4 times a month, so yes I do need quality and reliability.

Currently I am considering an EHX stereo electric mistress. Don't really think I'll use the stereo output, but I like the smaller size compared to the regular electric mistress.

For delay I am considering the Boss pedal.

I'd like feedback on these two pedals if anyone can be so kind. (I have read reviews on Harmony Central but some of those seem to be written by teenagers.) Also if anyone has suggestions as to other manufacturers I'd love to hear the opinions.

Lastly I'll go ahead and list my current pedal board. If anyone has input on my rig I'm all ears...

I love the Q-Tron, but I also have a Bassballs I may reintigrate - it has a rawer sound that I can't seem to get on the Q-tron.

But back to my original inquiry - feedback on flange and delay would be much appreciated! Thanks.

First, my opinion...Personally, I like the tone of my vintage (and bought used) Boss DD-2 and BF-2 to handle delay and flange. Built - like all Boss pedals - like tanks and super-reliable as well as relatively inexpensive. They're both 20+ years old and probably last another 100. They are relatively simple pedals but do the job for me. That said, I'm sure that there are plenty of other options that would work just as well. But, who has a chance - and finances - to try or A/B every product.

There are tons of pedals out there and about the same number of opinions of what's good and what isn't. Actually, an overwhelming number of options. Many of them perfectly good. Ultimately, it's all totally subjective and comes down to personal preference...

- What sound do you like. Flangers especially sound radically different brand-to-brand
- What options you need on a pedal in terms of functionality (really differ by pedal)
- What options "play nicely" with what you've already got
- What you can afford

So, listen to as many sound clips as you can (here and on YouTube.) Only problem with sound clips is the clip is rarely - if ever - generated using your specific rig and settings. Get opinions and make a decision. If you're going the new route (rather than used) if you can you you can buy them at an online retailer and take advantage of their quite liberal 30 or 45-day return policy if you don't like them. So, obviously don't trash them, attach Velcro or throw out any packaging until you're sure its a keeper. If you do make a mistake you can always take a bit of a loss (maybe) and sell them here or on another board. What I've noticed is EVERYTHING seems to sell eventually.
