I see less about these here than other pedals. I have an EHX electric mistress (XO series) and it is just lame. It sounds really fake. I know flangers are supposed to sound weird, but this is a bad weird. Are there any decent priced (say under 2 bills) greT sounding options?

I'll second the recommendation on the Boss (either BF2B or BF3), they sound good, reasonably warm/natural, and very easy to use.

The Vortex is also quite good, particularly with some of the available Toneprints (though that complexity can make it a little more intimidating). I loved the John Petrucci setting.

The Orbital has a lot of good options, but can be very intimidating if you're not used to that type of interface.

I've only tried the BF3, TC vortex and the source audio orbital. I'd love to get my BF3 or even a 2 again. IMO, those are the best most affordable flangers for bass. There are others. But those come to mind immediately for flanger. BF2 or 3.

I've had the orbital for almost two years and I do really like it but mainly use it for chorus. I was listening to some old recordings I made of the BF3 and immediately wanted it back haha.

Over the years I have collected some unique flangers: Dalelectro PsychoFlange, Ross Flanger (the old ac powered big red box) and my favorite the Ibanez FL9. There are a few flanger settings in my rack effects favorite there is White Flange on the ART MultiFxLT.

For live I rely on the offerings from Zoom.

This gets a lot of love for not a lot of money...
