flatwound help

I have a violin bass on the way and plan on putting flatwounds on it. problems is, I have zero experience with flatwounds and stringing them.

what do I need to know?

what are the do's and don't's?

Is this a Hofner, or a lookalike bass? Either will accept Pyramid strings.

it's a Douglas (rondo)

Flats string up just like rounds...just make sure the string doesn't end up twisted from top to bottom as you bring it up to pitch.

If it's a typical violin bass, make sure to get medium scale strings, even though the bass is a short scale.

I have tried medium scale Chromes and the La Bella 50-100 flats on my Hofner Club, and have liked them both.

I also really like rounds on that bass; they sound great in the mix with a band I play with. Lots of bottom, but just enough top end to cut a little.

Pyramids are supposed to be tailor made for Hofner (AFAIK, I have never owned or played a violin type bass). I use their strings on a P bass and they sound really nice on there, for what it's worth

I believe those have floating bridges, so mind your intonation

Buy Rotosounds 77 short scale I have them on my hofner and made it 1000 times better and the older they are the better
