flatwound help

have a violin bass on the way and I plan on putting flatwounds on. problem is, I have zero experience with flatwounds and putting them on.

is there anything I need to know/do?

what are the do's and don't's?

do they string up just like roundwounds?

Crimp the strings at a 90 degree angle about a half inch before the place you will cut each string. This keeps the wrap from unraveling from the core. This step is important with flats, and recommended for all strings to prevent problems.

No difference - just make sure to order the correct length strings. The violin ("Beatle" basses) require strings 2" longer than the 30" scale length (aka: Medium scale) because of the tailpiece and floating bridge. Labella makes Beatle bass/Hofner flats (and rounds) which are perfect.
