Flatwound Roundtable.

I want to get into flats so bad but everytime I put a set on my bass, I start missing the flex of rounds immediately.
Flats are where you simply can't be wishy-washy. You need a dedicated flatwound bass, and you need to dedicate yourself to the set-up; tone, and technique that flatwounds demand. Flats aren't for pansies.

I listened to all the tracks again and here is my ranking: 1) GHS - well-balanced tone in all genres. They feel great too.
2) D'Addario - Ditto. Although slightly rougher feel than GHS.
3) LaBella - These sounded great, too. To my ear the driest, most percussive of all the brands. Another great feeling strings.
4) Rotosound - Surprising warmth on the Motown track.
5) DR - A little to brittle sounding for my liking; too much high end; didn't sound fat.
6) Fender - Too much high end bark. Would be a great rock flat a la Iron Maiden.

Thanks for doing the video Jon!
