Flatwound string indentification with purple winding :)

It was bought 8-10 years ago when Kiesel guitars was still named Carvin from their site with unnamed packages. They don't sell It anymore and I want to know because It was the most organic, uprighty sounding strings for my acoustic bass and lasted a good 8-10 years.

Can you do something for me? Measure each of those strings from the ball end to the start of the silk to find out the "winding length". That can provide a clue as to what brand. Thanks.

EDIT: Would you happen to have a digital caliper to measure the gauges of those strings?

They are all around 96cm, 37.7953 inch? and luckyly I had digital callipher

• E 100 at middle but 108-110 etc near ball end
• A 80
• D 65
• G 45

Very likely so, thanks. I read from a YouTube comment Carvin sold those in bulk without brand.

Purple silk only at tuner end (no silk at ball end) with 38" winding on all four and brass ball ends = GHS Precision Flats.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the actual gauges as the Precision Flats don't come in those specific gauges, 45-65-80-100.

There you go... They must have been a custom set specifically designed by GHS for Carvin. That would make sense.

NOTE: The shade of purple silk has varied over the years. The silk on the most recently ones are more toward blue than the ones in your pic.

I was going to guess GHS Precision Flats, and now that @michael_t confirms it, I know it's true. He is the TB String Master.

Carvin used to private label strings. The prices were incredible but I don’t think you could ever know for sure what brand you were really getting.

My La Bella Low Tension flats have purple silk ends and look just like those, although I’m fairly certain the La Bella Low Tension flats weren’t available 8 - 10 years ago.

Can you compare how low tension those are against D'addario chromes or EB Cobalts within same gauge?

They’re much lower tension than chromes, not sure about the cobalt flats but the La Bella LTF are roughly the same tension as a 45 - 105 round wound. I really like them if you’re after a traditional thumpy flat that isn’t a bridge cable.
