Flatwound string mud out the effects?

I don't know why but i find it my jazz bas swith flatwound completely make the effects sound so muddy. The chorus, distortion and wah sound really muddy. My warwick corvette with SS string sound really good with effects on.

I put hte treble on the jazz bass but still sound muddy. Maybe i should use the warwick more if i use effects alot on certain songs. But the jazz bass give that nice old school tone which is good on certain things.

I use flatwounds on my P and I don't hear the mud... I use DA Chromes if that helps

I used TI Jazz Flats with my Moogerfoogers for a good few months before I switched to the rounds, and I have to say that they sounded perfect, not muddy at all. Which is why after switching strings a few more times and trying out some high end sets, I'm going back to the Flats (for this bass at least)

Yeah, I've never gotten mud through fx with my flats. That said, flats produce more fundamental than rounds, and rounds produce a lot more upper harmonics than flats. You can boost the treble on the flats but that doesn't create any upper harmonics that weren't there so much to begin with. So I'm guessing it's just that the sound you like with your fx happens to be the sound of a lot of upper harmonic content through the fx, and not so much of the fundamental. Not much you can do in that case except learn to like the fundamental, or switch to rounds, or try a compromise like groundwounds/half rounds or coated strings.

I find I don't appreciate some of my effects as much with flats. I'm just happy I can use the same compressor setting and amp eq. If I'm going to get goofy with effects my fretted with rounds is the better choice for me. The fretless with flats is a totally different vibe.

i use a jazz bass with flats and lots of effects... the only thing i have noticed since stringing my j with TI's is that i have less sustain, which is only occasionally a problem with things like gated fuzzes... but overall, i actually prefer the additional thump, and how that translates through the effect chain.

TIs have damping between the the wraps like DB strings, this is why.

Hello, 98% of the time I use flats, I have 45 stop boxes and use them and like them, do the math.

Seems to me that flats make everything a little more muddy. Some may describe it as 'thump' (as I do when I use them) but it is what it is. If your effects emphasize the mid/ top end of your bass range, it should sound muddier with flats IMO.
