is he going to play them on stage?
Im still undecided. Cant tell if I like them, or not.
Hear that.Simply because he's trying to get kids to play an instrument instead of some Guitar Hero/Video game bull!@#$.
My 23-year-old nephew is a punk rocker and skateboarder who likes RCHP, and seems to find something objectionable about almost anything "commercial" or main-stream; a bass that's as in-your-face-ugly and inexpensive as the new Flea bass might be just what it takes to appeal to his "shrug of indifference" generation.
I LOVE THEM,for the simple fact they are aimed at the beginner/younger market.I hope he makes more money off of them than God!!Simply because he's trying to get kids to play an instrument instead of some Guitar Hero/Video game bullsh!t.
You know, I think we all need to stop and look at the pic of him and the kids up there and ask ourselves who he's REALLY making this bass for...
Do you see ANY adults in there? Some of you might think it's a marketing gimmick but Flea really loves kids and helping them learn about music and succeed in it as well. This bass is more than likely made for kids so they can get a decent, budget instrument that won't have horrible intonation or make them feel discouraged by the poor quality affecting their playing abilities.
I applaud him for doing this, we have tons of basses that fit us perfectly that get churned out with all types of different pickups, preamps, neck sizes and wood types....for a kid who knows nothing about all that stuff, this seems ideal. Most kids parents wont shell out money for a setup on an instrument and most kids would be scared to try and do it themself. So everyone can have their opinion and like them or not, but lets not be selfish and diss this when it really wasn't meant for us older guys with longer arms and fingers. I can think of about 3 basses that are made that would fit my sister's hands (shes only 4'11" tall, so she has tiny hands) so adding another one to the market is nothing but good in my opinion....even better if it's actually a decent instrument.
Just my $0.02 =/

I like the 62 jazz bass and really enjoyed the AVRI series I used to own. If I was to nitpick, I would say to Fender to put a little more pigment in the paint. This color looks like a pair of underwear that was washed accidentally with a pair of red socks. Have a look at what Shell Pink is supposed to look like:
