Flea Goes To School

Ok, I'll be a stick in the mud - should we be impressed/overjoyed/tickled pink that a musician is taking another step towards becoming a better musician?

Shouldn't that be expected of any musician at any age? I think it's cool and all, but don't see the big deal.

Flame on! :hiding:

Yes I agree that it should not be out of the norm.

But it is nice to see that his playing ability/fame has not gone to his head. Too many people make it and then have the wow, I'm here I made it attitude. Nice to see that he knows he wants to learn more and he doesn't have an ego that gets in the way of that.

Fair enough. Except rock music is an industry where making money normally leads musicians to believe they are qualified to teach others. It's refreshing to see Flea wanting to learn more.....meanwhile...... Fieldy releases an instructional DVD :D

All of the best musicians I know know that they have more to learn. When someone thinks they can't be taught anything anymore, that's a sign they ain't as good they think they are. Not a big fan, but I know he is good. Kudos to Flea...

Word.
Unless you have a disability, you can never stop learning...and you shouldn't.

I guess when I feel I've reached the point that I know everything, I'll stop trying to learn.:D

I agree. And it really gets annoying seeing interviews with an artist who says that they "never practice" and things like that which actually discourage people starting out who get frustrated when they can't make a sound like them. I mean, come on. EVERYONE practices if even a little and during band rehearsals. And there's a ton of stuff to learn out there, not just technical prowess.

Cool to see him enroll in USC's program. Sure it's not a big deal, but it's not expected much among famous musicians.
