Fleabass, anyone?

dude, sweet KC Roberts videos... but I don't quite get it. My band opened for them a couple months ago, and when we were chilling, Matt showed me his basses; one was a nice Warwick (IIRC) 5, and the other was a crazy custom fretless 6. In these videos it looks like a Fender type, but I can never see a logo, plus it's got diff p'ups, 5 strings, and that behind-the-nut string bar

To the OP, squiers can be great, and more consistently are than just about any other 'cheap' brand. they can also be brutal, like just about *every* other brand out there

You got to open for them? Consider me jealous and interested in your band, lol! I posted their two Nirvana covers in the Recordings forum and Matt actually responded to the the thread and confirmed that in those vids he was playing a green Squier. I've seen Shook live and that was a Squier too.

EDIT: Matt was rocking a Squier Precision Special

and Shaggy (Shook's bassist) had a MB-5:

My band mates still compliment me on how good my Squier VM 77 sounds after each practice(3 practices with it). It did however need the frets leveled and dressed. The pay off is that its just as good as most fenders out there now. My only complaint is how heavy it is(10Lbs).

I read in bp magazine that Flea no longer controls the business side of Fleabass and has definitely learned a brutal lesson of how difficult and time consuming it is to start up an instrument company. From what was eluded to in the interview, it sounded like things got insanely crazy with expanding into other countries and he just couldn't deal with the stress and headaches of it all. I don't foresee this company sticking around very long if Flea doesn't have much to do with it anymore.

I have a Fleabass Junior that I got at a good ~$200 price and I really like it. I guess I have a "good" one. Put in a SD Basslines ssb-4 pup. I have been checking the Official Fleabass website for almost a year and their online store for tee shirts and stuff has always been "under construction." I should have known when the bass arrived and it did not even have a serial number or warranty card. Yikes!

Just came across this today. This is Matt from KCLR (i.e. the Nirvana tribute videos). Phil, which band are you in?

Yeah, my main ax is a Vadim 5 and the fretless 6 you mentioned was made by Dino Staniscia.

The Squier, however, is the sweetest deal I ever came across. Phat tone, comfy fast neck, good weight...SO happy with it!! And all for about the price I would've paid for just the Bartolinis it came with. I've had a lot of budget basses over the years and I've never been more impressed. The 3-4 Fleabasses I've tried just didn't blow me away as far as quality control and features for the price. Good, but not great.

PS. Kwesi, thanks once again for the support. You're my hero!
