TI Jazz Rounds use a smaller gauge nickel wire for the outer wrap so they feel smoother with less finger noise, I use those on my Jazz Bass.

I think these are the factors that I would like for a bass string.

I used to have my bass stringed with Ken Smith Burners strings. Since 15 years ago they are my strings. I like the sound from 1-2 months on the bass until a year-year and a half, always with Fastfret.

Recently, looking for something kinder to my left hand, I have tried DR Hi-Beam strings. I like the sound since I put it on the bass but they are like a cat tongue, and the sound I get when I slide my hand over them, even with tons of fastfret. They are very focused and I like it.

Is there a string that mix best of both worlds?

Try Sadowsky blue labels

Sadowsky blue label has less top end compare to NYXL and Dunlop SBN. Meanwhile the string texture less smooth compare to DR sunbeam and dunlop SBN.
Tension has no difference compare to fender 7250.
Plus..... Get dull pretty quick.

Do not try Rotosound Swing bass rounds. Save your money. They have more grip than rosin on a baseball.

I’m not sure what “sound” you are looking for, and surely I don’t want to send you down a rabbit’s hole at $25-$30 a pop.

I don’t have a problem with DR Lo-Riders, or GHS Bass Boomers, but I’ve been using round wounds since 1977 and I’m pretty used to all different brand of rounds.

I find this is true only in the initial break in period. After that, I find them no different texture-wise than any other stainless round, with minor exceptions. DR are a just a little smoother to me, but, the broken in tone of DR are not nearly as satisfying and mid-oriented to me as swing bass.

My experience with swing bass is they are the best sounding roundwounds on the planet, for the first 20 minutes LOL!! Seriously, they do get dead in a hurry. I love them to death for that first 20 minutes however…LOL.

Sunbeams were a good recommendation. If you like burners you might do well on fodera nickels. I personally like them over Dr strings but both are quality strings. Aside from that maybe dean markley blue steel nickel would work. They will be close to burners in terms of tension and feel. Contrary to popular belief i actually think hi beams are rough vs other rounds ive played. Its just because I used to get raw plucking fingertips which was the only time thats happened and I've played on more different strings than many. Hopefully you find whats comfortable for you. And of those i mentioned maybe the stainless version would be fine too. Blue steels, foderas, ken smith rockmasters are all pretty smooth relative to rounds. I always felt comfortable playing on them. I dont do well with nickel and i find steels to just sound better generally especially when you talk about clarity. Stainless definitely rings more clear vs nickel.

I am very impressed with that amount of answers.

More info of my bass. 5 strings, EADGC. It has hollowed body with:

-Piezo under the bridge for lows and highs (passive tone to get rid of highs, and a physical piece of wood and a screw that reduces vibration in the bridge, and controls low freqs).

-Bartolini magnetic pickup in MM position for thickness and low mids.

-Transducer on tap to give high mid freqs. Controlled with a passive tone for magnetic and transducer together.

Due to the piezo and transducer, it is very sensitive to fret noises and kind of strings in general.

No flats for the moment. I like to sound round and warm, but I love digging in and hear some highs.

I've tried Fodera Niquel 34, 45-105. Good overall sound, but I miss playing harmonics easily. I still prefer Smith Burners.

Another handicap for me is that I live in Spain and, for example, I cannot get the Dr Pure Blues with a high C.

Next step could be Thomastik Superalloy, or a lower gauge of Burners...
What do you think it gives focus to my sound when I change from KS Burners to Dr HighBeams? Nickel vs stainless steel or hexa core vs round core?
