'Fodera Bass Strings'

They do sound pretty good but don't you find them rough compared to other nickles like D'addario?

I didn't. But roughness has never been something that bothers me so maybe they are. Whatever it is I liked the feel of them. I've never compared them to D'Addario specifically because I've never been wowed by a string from them enough to consider playing it. I was using Sunbeams, and Dunlop Nickel Super Brights as well at the time and had no issue regarding feel switching between any of them. Tension/Stiffness was the most noticeable difference. Regardless, if a string is a little rougher or even stiffer or looser for that matter it's not going to steer me away from it for a string that to my ears doesn't offer better or at least the same performance and longevity.

DAddario XL are strangely smooth, despite how chunky the wraps feel at the same time. So....I would say not much else really feels smoother than DAddario?

I once tried DR Sunbeams, DR Nickel Lo-Riders and D'A XL Nickels back to back to back on my J. The XL Nickles were by far the roughest and grabbiest of the three.

That said, I can't comment on the Fodera Nickels as I have no experience with them.

Elixirs and DR strings are just as smooth as Daddarios I think. Fodera nickels are just as rough as stainless steel Rotosounds. They don't feel like nickel to me as smoothness is concerned.

I dont think they have silks.

I have Fodera Nickles on a couple of basses. They are prolly my best most consistently great sounding strings, even as they age. And they last a long time.

I also like DR Low Riders and Sunbeams. Roto 66s are excellent sounding, but very rough and not long lasting.

I played the steels for a few years and liked them. I like to change strings often and like a little bit brighter so i moved on. Fodera strings are consisted and the choice of some really respectable players. I felt other strings that suited my taste at a cheaper price. I think DR's have got it right for me.

I had a set of Vic Wooten Sigs on my old 2030GF sig bass. Great, bright, aggressive sounding combination. The strings had a nice, fairly low tension to them that I prefer (these days I have gone even lower tension with TI Jazz Rounds).

For those who have long-term experience with Fodera nickels, I'm curious what the consensus is between the Medium and Medium-Lights. There isn't a HUGE difference between the string gauges. I'm usually a "down the middle" 45/65/85/105 kinda' guy, but I'm curious as to whether the slightly lighter gauge on the Med-Lights is even noticeable or has any impact on tone, playability, etc.
