Actually, no that is not correct. We use a variety of other designs as well -- both split P pups and soapbar p pups. One of our best selling instruments is a Monarch 4-string with EMG P/J's...

Truth be told, in some ways, lateral humbuckers are actually based on a p pup with there being two coils side by side (i.e. laterally)...

We also have used pups with bar magnets in the past (some of our EMG's still use these), some old Barts were set up this way and then there was Lane Poor...

jason, am i correct in assuming that all the pickups used by fodera are based on jazz-bass designs/windings (as opposed to p-bass designs/winding)?

Just to pick up on another post-the one by "tapytap", earlier on...have q-tuners ever been put in a fodera, and if so, what were the results, given hat Q-tuners claim to cop the single coil tone without noise(if I heard/read corectly...)?

All of our Brooklyn-built instruments since at least the early 1990's are a hand-rubbed, catalyzed urethane lacquer. The NYC's are exactly the same material except some are buffed out to a high-gloss...

sorry, i was inexact about the pick-ups. i had meant the single coil stuff beign based on jazz bass designs.

Sorry for yet another pickup question, but which design , if such a distinction can realistially be made, tends to be the most dynamic and which design feature is most critical when talking dynamics ?

Dynamics? Wow, that is a tough question...based purely on my ear, I would have to say that EMG's are the most dynamic. Remember, they are true active pups -- they actually have a small preamp IN the pups. So, to my ear, they offer the best dynamics.

Of the classic J-bass sounding pups that we use...single coils. No question.

Sorry for yet another pickup question, but which design , if such a distinction can realistially be made, tends to be the most dynamic and which design feature is most critical when talking dynamics ?

Yep, that's Vinnie. Not sure about the others. But yeah, that is an amazing line up in that band and they just kill that song.

Hey Jason, James Genus' Fodera is pretty unique, what are the specs on it?

OK, here it is! Emperor Deluxe, walnut body, maple burl top, Duncan dual coils. I've played it for about a half hour, and the tone is indescribably clean and tight, with a lot of variations possible. They all sound great. Jason got the action set perfectly for me ... medium low just like I like. Wow.
