I have already mentioned that I've placed an order for a 5 string Matt Garrison shape bass. I recently was looking at the Newborns page at the Fodera site, looking at all the prior Garrison or Garrison shaped basses, and found one where the 5th (lowest) string had an extender tuner installed. I have to admit to being intrigued. I have a few basic questions.

First off, I read somewhere that a bass extender can lower the string from E to Low C, or anywhere in between. Is this accurate? Secondly, since it wasn't clear on the posting for the particular bass I'm talking about, I'm assuming that this 5 string bass is strung E to B, rather than B to G, that is, the dropped string would be lowering a string tuned to E rather than dropping a string tuned to low B. Is it possible to put an extender on a low B string to drop it even further, or is that impossible due to either 1) mechanically not possible for the extender tuner, or 2) that a low B string detuned even further won't be playable due to the string being overly 'floppy'. I ask these questions in the interest of possibly making my new bass as totally flexible as possible.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have (and had) the Hipshot D Tuner on my Foderas and they do and did a very nice low B (I'm using 105 E strings)

The only "little problem" is that you have to "fine tune" a D-Tuner string but when you've done that - it'll work fine :)

why all this standarts ?

I guess the two existing standart lines would be enough .. for me a company that defines and stands for the word "Custom" looses sth. of it's magic when having too many standart lines...

but that are only my thoughts of course ;)

There are not going to be unlimited number of Standard instruments, however, there are certain specs that we get asked to do again and again...if someone wants something different, we will ALWAYS be primarily a custom shop, but someone that wants all of the Fodera quality with no options can get that at a better price point which helps both them and the shop...

is this the 30 th anniversary or something else you guys sneaking in on us??? If it is the 30th i wasn't kidding put me down for the lowest number still available....I am skipping the Emp std as it is very close to my emporer especially if i change the electronics as i have been thinking about doing next year when i have some time/money....:hmm:

I'm trying to remember the wood combination that Jason has mentioned here a few times (and in the newborn section) that sounds great and they get asked to make a lot. Is is a Walnut body, Alder tone block, Ash Neck and Ebony fingerboard? Could that be a clue?
