I actually RAISED the action on it before sending it to you...seems like we probably play similarly action-wise if you lowered it...

one of the best and fun parts of building a Bass with a figured top wood like buckeye, koa, quilted and flame maples, etc. must be the moment when going into the spray booth - I remember seeing that Bass raw in the new Fodera video - now it's finished and I can imagine how much fun it was when it "poped up"

I love buckeye but the finished article can be such a surprise. Would I be right in saying that the tops for these two basses and the one above were cut from the same piece?

Well, I got that wrong. I assumed they were related because the upper horns (at the cutaway) looked similar on all three.
Good-old buckeye, love it but can't predict what it looked like before and after the spray finish.
BTW, nice to see all 12 of your Fodera siblings.
These two are my fav's. The Walnut top Monarch because it looks so cool and the fact it has original 70's Fender Jazz pups make it pretty versatile, I'd think.
And of course the one I call "The Phantom Menace". Killer looks...LoL..

Funny those two DO get a LOT of playing time...
I actually put in an order a month ago that will be a recreation of the Walnut topped one...kind of to A-B one of our instruments built in 1996 with one that we are making today...should be yet another fun comparison.
The past couple of weeks I have actually been playing the Zebrawood bass. I am playing it out on Monday with a small Folk / Blues ensemble and its just so beautifully clean and clear...it sits beautifully with the fiddle and acoustic guitars. I actually play it passive...well not completely passive as the EMG's are active, but I bypass the preamp...

Wow, #13..an auspicious and lucky number. So, will #13 (or is that #12, under Mrs Thumpin's new diet plan) have the Feathered Claro Walnut top?
I'm not surprised those two are your current go-for's. Regardless of how long, at least your assured playing time will be of the highest quality. Just be careful the other's don't get jealous and rebel..

Yes, a very discernible one. We are honestly not sure whether the difference comes from the aging process or if EMG is using different materials / parts. But the older EMG's tend to sound less "audiophile" if that makes any sense. They sound a lot more like a very good sounding traditional set of pups -- with no noise. I find them warmer and a touch "dirtier" -- in the best possible sense. I own and regularly play instruments with both older EMG's and newer ones and dig them for having their own vibe. My personal tonal nirvana tends more towards the vintage thing, so you can guess what I would have in the basses if I could find them...

Questions slightly off topic:
Are there any Fodera owners out there who use Reunion Blues Double cases? I'm finally narrowing down my choice and need to know how they stabilise the necks in their cases, is it by neck-brace etc. There are very few pictures on the internet (including their website) that don't show with any clarity, the inside of the case. If anyone can post one I'd be most grateful.
If it doesn't fit the bill then it's going to be an Igig515D, which is half the price of the Reunion Blues Dble.
One more question for Igig owners; can you secure the shoulder straps when using the handle or do they flap around loose?

Most of the AJ Presentations I see coming out of the shop have the one pickup, no electronics/knobs. I have seen lots of older models with two pickups, and the standard electronics. Can they still be ordered like this? From what I understand (correct me if I'm wrong), it is a custom 6 string that has the AJ Presentation shape and other similar specs, though it is not technically an AJ Presentation. Am I getting that right?

An AJ Presentation is, by definition, the same spec that AJ plays...one PUP, no preamp, 36" scale, chambered and with a carved top. Other instruments may share the shape but they are not Presentations...
