I would look through the Newborns and filter for all the various walnut tops and just drool and yours was one out of maybe three that I'd use as a reference. I wanted to figure what types of hardware (Black or Gold) looked best with various coloured Walnut and your EmpII6 almost swayed me towards gold. Gold hardware looks perfect on yours but wasn't sure if it'd would work with my top.
+1 regarding the dots.
Sweet! Got to love the newborn section. That was without a doubt the best idea that they implemented with the new website.
With regards to black vs. gold hardware, I think that you could go either way with dark tops like walnut. It's really all about your personal preference. The black looks really good on yours!

Well the smith neck is flatter than the fodera but it is also bigger. I like the fodera neck because its small but its not too flat. Also my smith is a 6 so its a bit hard to compare. I like the fodera neck more, I'm still trying to get used to it but it feels better than when i was trying to get used to the smith neck.

The koa Monarch. I always take two basses to a gig just in case. The Foderas sing through the Tecamp rig. The M212 cab is freakin' awesome.
Did you ever gig outdoors with the Zon's. I find it really hard to get those composite necks nice and warm so the hand and neck feel comfortable, come to think about it, that goes for certain conditions indoors too.
I gigged the Zons outdoors. Depended on the gig but I didn't find it that different from a wood neck in that regard. They do feel different. I actually have more of an issue with the finish, both neck and body. I hate thick poly finishes and find them often to be a pita live/outdoors unless I'm soaking wet with sweat. The Fodera finish I can play anywhere/anytime.
I do, yes. Can't get rid of it. Too awesome. I keep going back and forth, but I can't seem to let myself let go of it.
So true, half the battle lies in that Poly finish. It might be easier to get the necks a little sweaty and playable in warmer climes
but here in the UK your lucky if you get 15-20 days of really good weather for the year. Thanks to the good lord who smiled on us for the Olympic period but that's about it. Fodera necks (regardless of profile) always feel good.

That's good news, that's got to be the classiest Zon ever! So you got gas for a new Fodera? why not go for a used; Mike Pope's bass is on the market, sure it's seen it's fair share of surgery but It's still one fine bass.
That would make a nice standard "The Mike Pope Standard".

Craaap. I was hoping for 'Meh. Neck feels like a baseball bat, Warwick-style' or something else to make me stop GASsing for one.
The neck on the E5S is spectacular. I prefer both the Monarch shape and tighter bridge spacing on a 5-string but I was still tempted.

i am just starting to find my bass voice, and my NYC is a big part of it. If I can plug the NYC into a random rig, not realize the bass is flipped to passive, have the pups centered, and still lock other players and the crowd, there's something there that's special for me. Before I drift tooo far into metaphysical territory, I'll just say that my hands tingle with joy when I think about playing the NYC. Why haven't I just made my E5S deposit? Good question..
