That's absolutely gorgeous. Reminds of a bass I was trying to buy here about 4 years ago. Guy was asking about 7K, he backed out eventually and decided to hold it. Can't remember who. Wish I could have got it, I really like ash in basses.

Hi guys...

I just got an Emperor Bolt-On, and I saw some explanations on this thread about changing the kill switch to a mid frequency select switch, and looked it up on the Fodera web too, it explains about jumper and stuffs, but since there are only diagrams, I cannot find the Jumpers mentioned on my switch board (Mine is pre-2009).

Anyone here that can help by showing the actual photo? Or other detailed information. PM or just reply on the thread will be great. I tried emailing Mike Pope. but maybe my email went to 'spam'?

Hey Anton,

When I last visited the Fodera shop in BK, Joey offered to do the switch for free if I were to bring my Emperor in. I happen to love the kill switch, but it wouldn't be a terrible idea to swing by the shop and pay a visit anyway. great group of people. My visit made me happy to support the company as well as the instruments they produce.

Hi Grady, actually I visited the shop on March 2010 when they were doing set up for my friend's Emperor Fretless, everybody was extremely nice, unfortunately I don't live in NY anymore, I should update my Profile I guess, still feels like a New Yorker :D

I had my Research guy check up the preamp (I work in an Amplifier maker) and I gave him the printed page for the switch mods that's on the Fodera website, both preamps, the new and older ones, and his conclusions was they are not the same preamp, at least in the switch board, mine has no 5 jumper connectors like on the web, it only has 3. The function of the switches are mute, active/passive and single/parallel humbuckers. So I'm guessing this is an even older version of the preamp?

I bought it used and I don't see any modification has been done, I send come pics to a friend who asks Jason about the spec, etc of this bass, but I guess this is one of the old ones when documentations is not as great as today. Regardless, this is a fantastic bass, very warm and clear, with a bottom that sits perfectly in the mix. It's like owning two basses at the same time, I could get 'J-Bass' and a modern 'Smith like' sound with minimal changes on the settings, I even found one setting that allows me to swap between the two in just a flick of the coil tap switch.

So if I cannot change the switch's function, I wouldn't be so bummed, I will post pics later after I replace some blemished parts (from aging) with new genuine Fodera parts, just to make this pretty lady look hotter :D

You can't do it on the older pre-amps.

ha, thanks dude! Yeah that poor Alleva Coppolo has just been collecting dust now that the Fodera is here but hopefully some vids will be up soon!

Well, as usually a Fodera Std has served as a gateway drug...again. The MGS has been intoxicating, and my first experience with a high-C has been eye-opening. Of course that leads to another un-explored area...the dreaded 6-string. Instead of jumping into the deep end on that (I still have string damping concerns for a 6) I decided to put a toe in the water and have a used Zon Sonus 6 coming at the end of the week. But if all goes well...well...um...

What! Six strings, say it ain't so! Why would you need six strings, you don't even have six fingers to take advantage of all them. :)

Yeah! the MG and the high C is a real eye opener! I used to play 6 exclusively but I switched to two 5 because I also had the damping issues. Have you maybe thought about having a 6 with small string spacing? as small as it can get but I'm not sure how small it could be on 6 strings. In any case, I usually take my 5 string P bass and my MG which has the high c with me. Im glad I switched out of the 6 though... the drop D tuner also helps a bit when I start to miss the B on the MG.

for me its the damping on the right hand. I can damp 5 strings but there is always one string left out and it rings if I am not careful. Its not a big deal but when recording it will be heard slightly. Its veeeery subtle but if I listen back to myself then its sometimes present... when I rather have a clean sound.
