Which strings do you guys with MGS use? Im using the Fodera nickel .28-.100 which came with my bass but I'm thinking about switching to something heavier. They feel a bit light for my liking. Anyone tried something else on the MGS?

I use DR Sunbeams 120-028 set on my MG6

I also strung one of my 5ers E-C, with Fodera MG (28-100) and DR Sunbeam (30-105) back and forth, though I begin to find the medium gauge a pain to play due to the higher tension.

Ken Smith custom balance is a nice choice if you are a stainless steel lover. Pretty good sounding strings.

Now I'm pondering a .95-75-60-40, with either 0.030 or 0.025 high-C, for my next shot...

Sadly we have no control over pricing on a special run like this. Actually as a manufacturer selling through Dealers we legally do not have any control over pricing with any instrument. We can only set a "Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price" and then let market forces do the rest.

I have actually offered GTR my personal opinion about pricing for this model. We will see if they listen. FYI, they are killer sounding basses and at the right price offer a heck of a lot of bang for the buck. Read between the lines about my thoughts on how they are currently priced...

Unfortunately we couldn't touch a $3,500 price and build them the way we do. I know that there are a lot of wonderful builders that can build at this price point and lower, but we do things in a rather old fashioned way here and the amount of time it takes us to do things that way adds cost...

I would think that you would have some measure of control how they market it - them actually naming it a 'GTR standard' clashing with your named standards. And selling it on ebay? To me, it adds to the potential 'are these guys for real' question. However, that's their prerogitive, if you don't prohibit it.

In the grand scheme of things, is a good thing that a company has the capital to order a batch of this size from you, as long as they support the Fodera brand in a way that makes sense.

I love DR and Fodera strings but I wish that they would do 0.32 C string. I like the sound of a 0.32. Therefor I use daddario. They are ok and cheaper but I prefer DR or Fodera.

I believe you Jason .What I was trying to convey (last night serial insomniac) This is a great bass, but I would rather save my money and wait longer and get the Fodera i really want. There are some great builders out there, but as the song goes"Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" .

i'm using circle k stings on some of my basses.

he's into matching tensions, and has a workup of his strings' tensions at different tunings.

i think he uses some sort of nickel/steel combination. a little zingy for me at first, but they've deadened pretty nicely whle still having some nice harmonics.

not hugely expensive, i think.

might be worth checking out.
