Hello There Fodera Junkies,
Just wanted to share my new AJ6 that I just received in trade from a friend of mine on TB. This is my 4th Fodera, and I have to say this is the most amazing bass that I have ever owned. So much so that I am considering selling all but 1 other and just spending as much on this one to master 6 strings. Thought I would share and see if maybe I could join the Fodera Club...
Eye Candy:
Olympus OMD E5M. That is shot in my studio at night, very low light with no flash. Pretty terrible conditions, but I've got really good glass (Panaleica 25/1.4). In the past I would break out my neutral gray background and shoot my basses but I'm too lazy for that now. Even then though I never used flash - I just don't like the look (and am too impatient to learn and set it up correctly).
As far as the "Fodera sound" I think it is more the "Fodera feel" - and that extends to the sound. My Foderas are incredibly accurate. They respond to every detail of my playing. You can't really hide mistakes with the instrument - they will call you out. But if your technique is clean you are highly rewarded with the action, feel, and tone of the notes. Some of the time I want it to sound like a P-bass. And it will. But a P-bass that will turn on a dime and go elsewhere should I decide to do that.
The bottom line is that they inspire me to reach further than other instruments I've owned. That to me is worth the price of admission.
A few years ago I had a set of D'Addario half-rounds on my Fodera 6. They were on for a long time and I remember that it was an agreeable sound. I wish I had some sound samples, though... It was the ENR71-5SL set, 130-45, with an extra 30 single string for the C. I've got a few sets around still, so I might put them back on...

If you get a chance, can you take a picture of the MGS and Koa Monarch lying or standing side by side. I already have a Monarch and I have an MGS on order and I just want to get an idea of the overall sizes between the MGS and the Monarch.

Did the bodies on the Imperials get narrower? This one looks odd to me -- Like it's longer and narrower than other Imperials.
Every pic I've seen of the new Imperials definitely looks narrower to my eye, especially compared to my older imperials.

For what's it worth the MGS seems like its about an inch smaller in width. I dig the change from an aesthetic perspective. I am looking at the possibility of an Emperor II for my custom. I like the wide body to help support the right arm on my older imperial. Anyone have experience with the emperor bodies for that and also upper fret access?

Speaking now as the player I was before I became Vinny and Joey's partner, that is EXACTLY how I felt when I started playing my first Monarch and why I ended up devoting so much of my time, energy and money to making sure that all of our kids will still have Foderas to play when they are ready...

LOL...that actually was the rationale behind the insanity involved with having that many. I kept asking myself, "What would this sound like with this?" And so it went. My Monarchs do actually serve as a kind of "tone library," enabling me to bring in a couple for customers to play and hear when they are trying to decide between two different wood combinations...
