Hey All,
I have not yet received my second Fodera, my first custom with specs specified by me, and I'm pondering a third...
What do you guys think about fully white basses? I am pondering a Holly topped Emperor II. I saw one recently on the Newborns page [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
The Emperor II has always been my favorite shape, but I didn't do that shape for the build in progress because of the size. However, I know what I like, and while size-wise, it may not be the best for a small statured person such as myself, I know I won't be happy until I have one. I'm pondering a Brazilian fretboard (no inlay at all, no dots, blocks) and a 5 stringer. What do you all think?

I love the look of black & white and I'm pondering a future build with either a holly or very light creamy burl top.
I have a Zon Sonus 5, White body, Dark (composite wood) neck, black single-pup + chrome hardware & love it, so I'd like to mirror that combo.
Lennard III' new Viceroy shaped baby (see page 5 for action shots) looks Soo good! I did ask him if he'd go for holly pup cases and he'd set his mind on having a black/white contrast on the body + chrome hardware = killer combo.
Len III - When you get some time could you please post a pic of your Viceroy and Emperor side-by-side? I still find it hard to discern how different the shapes really are.. Cheers in advance..
I've really grown to appreciate the Emp II shape, it wasn't an instant hit but it's definitely grown on me. If you're going for a 5 string the body will only be slightly wider to accommodate the extra sting, Jason will tell you by how much and you could specify that you want it as compact as possible.
Regarding the blank finger board; I think Abalone blocks would make a nice contrast to the white holly top, but that's just me. Looks aside it's the sound we really ought to be concerned about, but when your paying top dollar for arguably the finest basses on the planet you may as well have your cake and some!!
I'm looking forward to seeing the new builds that will be appearing in the next few months, best of luck to all who are waiting.

I've been trying to make a comparison from Munji's pic of his the Koa Viceroy & Emp but I wanted your take on the subject.
So, Viceroy has slightly longer upper-horn and rounder (less pronounced) lower-bout..that's as much as I can make out.
Do you notice a great difference when they're strapped on i.e is one easier against the body than the other?

Lugzy, what I do notice is that the Emperor is a LOT heavier than my Viceroy - it's 4,8 kg and the Viceroy is only 4,2/4,3 kg which is great for a 5
The a** of the Emperor is like on a JB ... on the Viceroy it's just perfect - just between JB & P

Steubig, I have a couple of questions about you basses. Firstly, what are the neck laminates made from in the bass second from right in the first picture? They look darker than the laminates in the other basses. Is it a mahogany neck or did they just darken with age? Actually the fretboard is darker in color as well and what's with the greeny-blue spots on the body?
Secondly, is the first bass in the second picture Lucas Pickford's (I think that is his name) old bass? It looks familiar somehow.
Lastly, and apologies as I'm sure you've been asked this before, who makes your custom pickups and what coil arrangement is going on there?

have no idea what the laminates are. i think they changed them after a while. the first two or three basses i had made had different laminates and sizes. no mahogany necks. the fb is a maple board that has been well used. probably different finishes aging differently. ebony boards on the 2-pickup models. the fretless as a cyanoacrylic finish on it cause i play too hard, so that might be the color deal. the greeny things are from when my daughter was younger ;-)

nope. not his bass. i think his was a 36-inch. i recall because i think he sold his (?); i considered making a run at it.

yeah. back in 85, that's what they made and i sorta just went with it . . . i had been drawing up ideas of what a 6-string would look like if i had one made (not a lot of folks doing it back then) and when i saw their second body style (the ones you like), i was pretty much sold.
That thought alone scares me enough... because I still like the idea of the added variety. We shall see. I know I'll love my new Monarch... the question is, will it be so much that I'll have to have another. I will say this... if I did get another, it'd probably be something with J pickups in it, but I have that sound very well represented already, so I should be good with just the one Fodera, representing something you can only get in a Fodera tone-wise.No problem though.... Vic has LOTS of nice stuff he can sell to fund more Foderas.
