So is a 5'er strung E-C. Without a B-string that you need to damp.

Interestingly though, I played with a very good guitar player a few years back and he hated when I played anything but 4 string Basses (ideally fenders).

I found out later that he got lost or forgot parts from time to time and the B string on my 5's screwed him up when he looked over to see what position/string I was playing. I guess he was using my bass neck as his cheat sheet.

Ha yeah, was playing the e to c garrison with a guitar player and half way through a new tune guitar player asks if I'm in an altered tuning...now how to you answer that...altered to me is a variation of dadgad, not e to c.

luckily i don't get it too much, but you could always ask them why they have more strings than keith richards, cause, ya know, "keith only needs five."

One of my regular gigs is with a guitar player who uses a 9-string. When I play my 5'er, we cross a lot. Luckily it is a trio so it works.

1985 fodera aj6, with original emg pickups and has labs. semi-rock/funk stuff (lots of attempts at thumb playing)

Yup, if you're a sideman and you fancy Fancy Basses you probably should have a P and a double gig bag for auditions. That way, if you roll up and everyone's playing a Tele with a Blues Jr...

i remember my gear, but not theirs. two guitar players. some rack stuff in there, but a lot of foot pedals.

p.s. this was studio stuff for an alb that came out on a&m, so some of those delays and so forth could be from that—though we pretty much sounded like this live, save a few overdubs on this stuff.

something odd about this bass...the upper bout looks different to those I have seen, I think

It is a neck-through, not a dovetail. There are two accent layers instead of one but that part looks pretty normal. Agree that the upper horn shape is off but it certainly could be a one-off that is a mix between MG, AJ, and something else.

here's my deal with the 6, and i know it's not for everyone.

play only the 6. don't trade back and forth. go full-bore.

if nothing else, you'll have a better feel for it before you have to finalize with the boyz from brooklyn.

Agreed. And once you get truly comfortable with it, switching to other configurations might be a non-issue. That's how it was for me.
