1. Our wooden pickup covers are larger than the plastic ones and, as such, require the pickup cavities to be re-routed. If wooden covers are made that will fit in the existing pickup routes, they will be too thin and will crack with use.

2. If it is an original Fodera ramp it is not glued on, it was installed with two-sided tape and can be removed.

Since it seems like you live in Brooklyn, I'd gladly show you in person how to take of the ramp without damaging the top...

thanks Jason. We spoke about having wooden covers made a few weeks ago, but you told me Fodera doesn't make covers for the EMG shaped dual coils. My friend Jon Maghini of M basses says he's made several pairs of covers for other Foderas like mine and they've turned out great, so hopefully they won't be too thin. As far as the ramp, it may not be a Fodera ramp cause that thing ain't budging and leads me to believe there's a bit more than double sided tape holding it on there....maybe I'll roll by the shop next week when I get a second.

I have a ramp taped on mine. They do stick very tightly, but they do come off. I'd bet it's just tape -- especially if you're not seeing screw heads in it.

fwiw the ramp on my MGS felt like it was really stuck on there. I just was patient and pulled up with slow/firm pressure. Eventually it came off. There was just a bit of glue from the tape left on the body. A little goo-gone and I was good to go.

I used a very small amount and was very careful with it. I didn't notice any finish damage but it was used sparingly and gently. I got most of it off without the goo-gone, and just used that for the final bit of stickiness. Simple Green might work as well.

yeah, this ramp is def glued on. I'm giving this thing hell and I'm no wimp by any means (ha). It's not budging in the slightest. It also has absolutely no radius to it, in fact it slants higher towards the bridge pickup. Seeing as how this bass did not originally have a ramp, I'm gonna go with Jason and have to assume it wasn't made by Fodera and is glued on there. Damn....

I just posted this over in the Pickup section, but I wanted to get opinions from the Fodera club as well and I know a lot of people don't frequent that section.


I'm finally going to switch out the EMG PJ's on my Fodera Monarch. I've never really been happy with them and I know the bass can sound so much better than it does now. The EMG's are seriously over compressed and I'm missing that P-bass punch, since the pickups are wired in parallel instead of series.

I picked up a bridge pickup from Best Bass Gear. It's a 5% over Lindy Fralin Split Coil. They have a great price on it right now and I couldn't pass it up. This also seems to be the best bridge pickup available for a PJ setup as it's both hum cancelling and overwound, which will help with volume disparity often found in the PJ setup. I was going to get a Fralin Precision pickup, but all the clips I hear make it sound like it has very little low mids and a ton of upper mids. Very grindy and not nearly as punchy as other P pickups I've had.

I was looking at the Bill Lawrence Wylde pickups, but I was put off by a couple things. I didn't know how long it would take to get the pickups, I would have to order the flat radius which would take longer and I've heard that the P pickup is larger than most others and there is no way in hell I'm routing my bass. I am probably going to pick up a set at some point though.

I also tried the Nordstrand pickup in the past and I found it to be very scooped and modern sounding. I've heard a lot of people say the opposite, but that's definitely how it sounded to me.





So at this point, I'm trying to decide on which P pickup to get to go with the Fralin bridge pickup. I think I have it down to either the D. Allen pickup or the Lollar.





I'm happy to hear an ideas or thoughts.
