Ok, listening to recordings from yesterday (double header - solo looping gig, then quartet) and I'm finding starting to "get" the dual coils. I still am a PJ guy, but I'm finding some tones that I really like with the dual coils. The fretted 5 sounds good on pretty much any setting though, and yesterday I was through a QSC K10 for the first gig, my regular Monique/Baer for the second.

I think I may need a 6-string though. The drop-D gets me close, but... :hiding:

Hmmm. Possibly a 17.5" Monarch 6 big brother to the 5. You've tried to resist the allure of the six
but it's pulling you in. LOL

I heard Felix yesterday and he used the B string very tasteful with the Yellow Jackets. The B string on the 33 scale is great

When I listen to Tony Grey, that makes me also concidering a 6 strings....

I guess he plays a Monarch Elite, walnut body and maple ton block;
not sure about the fingerboard and the scale.

Maybe Jason knows the precise specs ?

Looking at the photos of the beautiful new AJ Presentation prompted me to remove the truss rod cover of my holly Emperor ll to show how the finish has aged. I'm not sure of the exact year of this bass but I think it was 2007 or 2008. I acquired it mint in 2010 and it was light cream - almost white.
Exposure to Mexican sunlight has darkened it to the point where it looks like aged ivory and more wood grain is showing
My wife now calls it "the banana cream pie"
In September Jason posted " In theory the finish that we are using these days (an acrylic lacquer) should not yellow and also should protect anything we paint with it from most of the light spectrum that would turn purpleheart brown. However, we've only been using this finish for the past 3 years, so we have to wait and see."
It will be interesting to see how the new AJ ages. I also thought that this might be interesting to anyone considering a holly top. Personally I really like the aged look.

I wonder if the wood is yellowing from the sun or the finish...
