Fodera Club Part XXIII

Has anybody restrung an MGS B-G? I'm just wondering if there was any/much alteration to the nut needed?

Also check the bridge. My Fodera AJ 5 string was originally built with a high C. I was converted to a low B. I had to replace the bridge as the B string bridge saddle could not move back far enough to intonate correctly.

I happened to see this replica on evil bay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mint-Custom...del-5-string-electric-Bass-body-/390683016146. At first glance I was surprised and confused by the item name, but I soon realized that it was all a joke. Although I wondered how people would evaluate its handwork, my biggest question is: isn't it sort of copyright infringement to use the name "fodera"?
The seller pulled one of his ads and added the word "replica" today. Selling "replicas" is in violation of ebay rules. A lot of sellers include Fodera strings in their ads, but I feel thatusing Matt Garrison's name is really pushing it! Still, he seems to have a lot of happy customers!

It's impossible to really break things down to that level as there are so many changes on this instrument that it is the sum total of all of them that yields the quantum leap forward IMHO.

That said, the Hybrid design with its four-inch thick body and hollow construction is certainly a big, big factor. Lots of the other things tend to be more incremental in nature but they all do add up.

Hope that makes sense!

Jason

Hey Jason-

Considering all the R&D that went into the new bass, what factors on the new AJ design would you say are THE key differentiators in driving the tone refinement? Just curious, as I'm always interested to read up on your findings considering how much accumulated knowledge of tone recipes you guys all have!

Tony is a 33" scale, 17.5mm spacing guy. His Monarch 6 has a Walnut body with Indian RW FB...

When I listen to Tony Grey, that makes me also concidering a 6 strings....

I guess he plays a Monarch Elite, walnut body and maple ton block;
not sure about the fingerboard and the scale.

Maybe Jason knows the precise specs ?

If you guys all have a couple of minutes and want to do some serious good, flag all three of this guy's listings as fraudulent. I did so this morning. This is just beyond unethical and absurd!

Thanks Jason! All your insights about the design R&D work and implementation approach for the instruments continues to make for great reading. And the stuff coming out of the shop lately has been quite simply jaw-dropping.
