What kind of tone are you going for with that bass?

Something with a fairly neutral tone(PUP's in '70s position); punchy with a little more thump on the bottom. I mainly play anything from classic rock and funk to modern pop and some free style jazz and jam rock. Of course I'll play anything if you write the song on a $50 bill though

What's strange is that after all the many years of weddings, parties, and bar gigs I have never had to play "Freebird". I feel almost a little empty.

almost 40 years of gigging - only once did i have to play it and the guy was so annoying we did it reggae feel for fun. He was so drunk he was somewhat cool with it.....

Made my final visit today. Another great visit at the shop. When I ordered my bass originally, I had no clue what I wanted. All I wanted was a build slot. But since then I was able to do research and over time I started with my order. After years of playing a 34 inch scale and 18mm spacing (Ken Smith specs), I realized that I am not comfortable with those specs. I recently found myself a lot more comfortable on a 19mm spacing and 35inch scale. To me, it feels more natural to me and easier to play. The hardest decision was trying to decide on the tone wood.

But since then I was able to do research and over time I started with my order. Nice spec's. A Birdseye Maple neck? Don't see that very often. You will be getting one of the few remaining Pink Ivory f/b's. Jason Raso, the video guy/bassist that does our Youtube vids, absolutely loved the Imperial we have with a PI f/b.

Now the wait to have it built begins. It will go by quicker than you think.

He did say that once the log was all used up, there would be no more basses with Pink Ivory. Nice score. Sometimes timing is everything.

Forgot to mention, the best part of my visit today was the hug I got from Jason. I'm not gay or anything, and neither is Jason, but it made me feel like family. Also the discussion about when wives find out how much these basses cost.

Caution: Be careful about demoing different basses in the shop, especially with different tone woods. Those basses make you want them.

That will be a great instrument. The maple neck/alder body/ebony fingerboard combo is always a great, versatile combo. The pink ivory FB is pretty similar, so I'm sure it will come out similar. That should be a great instrument.

I wanted something warm and articulate, so hopefully those specs will get me there. I'm looking forward to showing everybody the top; it is absolutely stunning!

Sounds fantastic. I have an Emperor Deluxe with walnut body, ebony 'board and maple burl top. It's articulate indeed, but maybe not quite as warm as alder or mahogany. It's the one on the left.

That's why you only mention the base price when talking to the wife. Never delve into the details. I forget what man law number that was.

Me too. I think my wife gave me a "husband invoice" when she bought a Chanel purse.

Also, the ability to search by bolt on, deluxe, elite and # of strings would be cool. Asking a lot, but it would be very cool.

Tony is a 33" scale, 17.5mm spacing guy. His Monarch 6 has a Walnut body with Indian RW FB...
