That's one of the nicest looking basses I've ever seen. Is that a very light wood, or painted white?
Does anyone know the exact spec of James Genus' Fodera in this video with the Brecker Brothers? It is not his 91 Emperor, as this has a visible neck through.
Obviously, JG is amazing on any bass, but the tone in this particular show is just among the best bass tones I've ever heard. Maple neck/fretboard of course, J pickups - but what else? Top wood looks like mahogany or koa, but it is hard to tell because of the video quality.
Does anyone know?

Ahead of placing my deposit for build #2 early next week, thought I'd post a picture of my first build which I received back in 2014. Been looking back over the many (many, many) pages of this thread and seeing all of your stunning instruments has got me even more excited for my new addition.

Thank you! And, yes: I'll have it strung with the low B. I like that extra low end, plus 26 frets gives me some options in the upper registers. Tonally, I'm looking for something that's fairly well-balanced. As I grow older, the more and more drawn I am to alder- part of me is still tempted by alder body AND alder tone block- and in particular how it sounds. Also, really excited about the Aguilar pickups: every Fodera that I've heard with them has sounded fantastic, yours very much included!

33 scale will handle a low B but I see your point with 34 scale
Just two things to consider if I may add
1. DCB's are great and I will them alot. However if the bass is born with DCB's you can't not change them to Seymour Duncan without having the pickup holes made bigger. The SD is bigger than DCB's
2. for some reason Imperial II do not have same access to fret 25/26 as the MG shape. It may not effect you at all

Wow, I really did not know that- thank you for letting me know. That's a real shame because I love the Imperial II shape... I may need to rethink shape...
Or let Fodera know you want full Access on the Imperial II. It's custom build so ask them if they can do it

I'm a big fan of the Seymour Duncans and really do not care for the DCBs. I've yet to hear an example of a bass that swapped from SDs to DCBs and not think it sounded worse. :\ But I might be in the minority.
The Imperial II has the same access as the MG. I think that perception may be comparing a 33" to 34", where the difference in scale length means there is a little bit of decreased access to the highest frets as the length shortens.
I'd be wary about asking for extra cutaway. I had requested that on one, they agreed to do it, and then it arrived without it and with a different workaround that was not great.
Agreed about the 33" B, too- my 2 33" and 34" Foderas all have great Bs.
Sounds great please post a pic of the top after you have selected it. What's the build time these days?
