Oh man, if you ever, EVER want to sell that beauty, let me know. I've really been considering getting one of the Standard Classic Js that I've seen on Reverb. There's a couple on there now--especially the Oly white/tort guard one.
The Emperor is my favorite body shape in a 4. Yours is absolutely stunning!! When the time comes, I am going to order an Emperor 4 bolt on custom 33", olive top, pau ferro board, dual coils...mmm. I am currently enjoying my MSS in my avatar.

I wish the new Emperor 4 standard had a better looking top option to set it apart. Hopefully there will be a batch coming soon that will change my mind.
I don't believe that the sound in the video that came out when they announced the Emperor 4 Standard did the bass any favors. All of this IMO, YMMV, etc.
Oak as a top? Hmmm.... A simple flamed maple top would ring my bell, plus weigh less on average.
Anyone put any wampum down on the Emperor 4 standard yet?

I agree that emperor 4s with traditional J pickups look fantastic. I think I might do one of those for my "forever" fretless eventually.
That Emperor with the YY motif is just insane. I LOVE it! I would order that.

Black hardware looks great on the Tulipwood. What's the situation with the knobs ? Are they gold or wood ?
I wonder if our basses had the same color when new. Do you store yours in daylight ? I think mine has been stored in the case and I still do so.
The knobs are gold - but looks kinda wood in this picture. The bass have changed over the years
I tend so store my basses in the cases. Strings also last longer
Like old fretless said I think it was a labor issue.I'm sure the white oak looks and sounds great, to me I was set on red oak. At one point was seriously thinking of ordering a Monarch four with red oak and Brazilian board those days are gone. I understand Fodera's reason if the red was much more
labor intensive than white. No idea why they discontinued ash necks. Sure miss the days when Jason was here and would give an explanation.
However if one wanted to order a Presentation II and spend $35,000 I would a bass just like AJs at that price hell what's a few hours of extra labor and a price increase to make up for it
AFAIK mine was the last one built with a full red oak neck and Mike told me at the time that it was really labour intensive to use. I originally had my heart set on an ash neck but they told me that this beetle

has been decimating ash trees and has apparently made neck quality wood really difficult to source in the US, hence white oak has been substituted on the MG signature.
Can't remember the precise date but it went into production in mid February last year, completed in April
It's heartbreaking how such a little bug can do so much damage. I may be wrong but I might have read that the Emerald Ash borer does most of the damage in the first couple of inches of the tree you would think the heartwood would be ok.

Anyways, I'm in Tokyo right now and have hit at least 20 music stores over the last two days. After explicitly setting out to play as many high-end Japanese basses as I could the only bass that made me feel like I had to have it was a 2012 MG Standard.
